For the Chinese crisis can mean either danger or opportunity

Last night President Trump gave a major address on the border "crisis" as he calls it. This is not a major crisis as the number of illegal immigrants who have crossed our borders has been steadily declining the past five years. What is a crisis however is one his administration has created by shutting down the a significant part of the federal government. No group of people has been more affected by this than Native Americans. We are very dependent on federal funding and when the funds are cut off it has life and death implications for our people. Every day this shut down continues is another day of hardship for our people. If it is not resolved by Friday many people will lose their food stamps which will only make a difficult situation that much worse.
The opportunity that is here is to come up with a comprehensive immigration reform bill which would include more border security and will provide a path for citizenship for the 11 million immigrants who are not currently citizens in our country. This was passed by the Senate a few years ago but the speaker of the house at that time Paul Ryan would not put it to a vote in the house and so it went nowhere. The solution is still there and all our political leaders have to do is to take the right action. This will provide a long term solution to this intractable problem which will make our country safer, provide an economic boon and give many non-citizens a way to become permanent citizens. Carpe Diem: Let's seize the day!
