China's shipping more than turbine parts, Statkraft reduces renewables targets

Several stories we discuss this week have the potential to impact the the future of the industry. If that worries you, skip ahead to learn more about how our Wind Farm of the Week makes good on its "good neighbor" promise. Now for the heavier news: It appears that China tried to ship combat-able drones to Libya via Italy. The boxes were marked as containing wind turbine parts. Oops? Allen Hall , Philip Totaro , and Joel Saxum consider the industry-related issues, like shipping, manufacturing, price disparities, and market share, before dabbling in international economics and ultimately asking, why is this story missing?from the US (and world) news media stage? In fact, it's quite possible that?you heard it here first. Other significant developments we're watching include that Norwegian energy giant Statkraft is dialing back its renewable targets. The company says it will focus on investments at home, in Norway, but the size of reductions is significant. Meanwhile, in England and the US, wind developments are moving along.

England has recommitted to improve its energy independence, specifically by boosting Britain's onshore capacity by?2030. In the states, the first wind turbine has arrived for installation the Port Fourchon Coastal Wetlands Park in?the Gulf of Mexico. And our?Wind Farm of the Week, situated in western Indiana, is Jordan Creek Wind Energy Center. Owner NextEra Energy, Inc. ?has proven to be a considerate and generous neighbor.
