Semi-Solid-State Batteries in the IM Motors L6 (2024) – 8,70 Innovation Index Points

IM Motors, a brand under the SAIC Motor Corporation, has officially unveiled the L6, a premium sedan featuring groundbreaking semi-solid-state battery technology. With this innovation, the L6 promises an impressive range of up to 1,000 km (CLTC) and enhanced safety features. Semi-solid-state batteries use a hybrid electrolyte design, combining a solid electrolyte on one side of the separator with a liquid electrolyte on the other, resulting in faster charging times and improved resistance to fire and explosions.

The advanced battery chemistry, however, is only available in the top-tier version of the L6, priced at 330,000 Yuan (€42,900), while the entry-level model starts at 230,000 Yuan (€30,000). Though marketed as "solid-state," the technology more accurately represents a semi-solid-state design with a partially solidified electrolyte.
