China Global Month of Caring: A Decade Long Story About Love, Care and Dedication
Ford China celebrated its eighth year of Global Caring Month activities this September. Volunteers from Ford China worked on a variety of projects, from charity walks for orphans to porpoises and puppies, both online and offline.
Over 6,000 people participated and contributed 322 hours of volunteer services.
Supporting orphan education: walk for love, let more orphans stay in the classroom
In September, Ford China volunteers and their relatives and friends from across the country took to the road to raise money for orphans.
From September 10 to September 16, 4,270 people participated in a charity walk launched on Public Welfare Day and walked a total of 100,131,700 steps. Since the launch of the project, Ford employees and their relatives, the company and participating charity platforms have donated a total of 904,546 RMB, which will benefit more than 350 orphans and provide them with the opportunity to continue their education.
Every year, hundreds of employees and caring people support orphans through the Amity Foundation's Orphan Sponsorship Program. The program helps orphans in their studies, improves their living environment, and organizes annual field visits to donate books and gifts to the children. The total amount of donations has exceeded 7 million yuan since 2012.
Protecting the Yangtze finless porpoise: protecting biodiversity and enhancing a carbon-neutral environment
In Nanjing, volunteers went to the Yangtze River to improve the living environment of the Yangtze's "smiling angel" -- the finless porpoise, a wild animal protected at the national level, helping more than 300 fingerlings of cochineal fish and more than 7000 fingerlings of four big fish families return to the Yangtze River.
Providing care and protection of stray animals: adoption instead of selling
In Shanghai, volunteers came to Bao'en Temple to help stray dogs and cats find new homes before winter.
Safety education: always be safe and aware
Volunteers from Shanghai and Nanjing also went out into their local communities and outdoor areas to promote safety education for primary and secondary schools, as well as surrounding communities.
Celebrating a decade of the Ford China Volunteer Corps
Our volunteer activities are not limited to the month of September. 2022 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Ford China Volunteer Corps. The Ford Volunteer Corps supports Ford China employees in caring for their local communities and giving back to society through charity and service.
In the past ten years, the Ford Volunteer Corps has organized more than 680 volunteer activities in Shanghai and Nanjing, has led more than 20,000 Ford employee volunteers to provide 120,000 hours of public service in more than 60 communities, has raised more than 7 million RMB to support public welfare projects, and has been committed to building communities with hands-on assistance.
Ford volunteers built a better world for all in many ways over the last decade:
Orphan Education
Launched in 2012, more than 2,200 orphans have been sponsored in the past 10 years, and over 2,200 Ford employees have participated in terms of providing support and donations.
Environmental Protection
Launched in 2012, this involves many areas such as garbage collection, tree planting, noise improvement, food waste composting and porpoise conservation. A total of over 1,000 volunteers have participated.
Warriors in Pink
Held in 2013, the Warriors in Pink charity sale promoted women's self-care and continued care for the breast cancer community. The sale raised over 40,000RMB. A total of 18 breast cancer patients received financial support and over 800 volunteers participated in the charity sale.
STEM Education
Established in 2014, this program involves over 100 Ford employees from engineering backgrounds to teach students in 14 primary schools, 20 middle schools and 160 universities.
Community Safety
Established in 2014, this focuses on safety prevention education in schools and communities, with over 200 Ford volunteers involved in five communities and 15 primary and middle schools involving students, teachers and citizens.
Rainbow Charity
Established in 2014, over 100 volunteers work on activities related to hospice care for seriously ill orphans and care for people with disabilities. In 2022, the charity donation activity for the Nanjing Rainbow Center was launched. More than 1,500 participants joined and over 330,000RMB was raised, as well as 11 rainbow babies were sponsored.
Online Video Classroom
Held in 2016, more than 20 volunteers participated, providing over 100 hours of video courses and supporting nearly 140 primary and middle school students in remote districts.
Our Ford China volunteers hope their work will cause a ripple effect beyond their efforts, and inspire others to do the same. Their care and dedication is not just limited to September, and will continue for several more decades.
