China-Europe freight train?operational?updates(Week 9)
The situation in Russia and Ukraine this week has exacerbated the market's concerns about global energy supply,?posing?more?pressure on the fragile global supply chain. Brent crude oil broke through $105 a barrel within the day, the highest in nearly eight years. Shipping companies have said that the rise in oil prices will, without exception, prompt them to consider levying additional fuel surcharges. Many goods destined for Ukraine choose to discharge at the port of said (Egypt) and the port of Korfez (Turkey), which may cause more delays at congested ports.
The operation of China-Europe freight train has attracted widespread attention. It is understood that westbound and eastbound trains are still running normally?in?this?week?and remained basically unaffected. Russian Railways has been included in a US list of sanctioned Russian companies – but there is, as yet, no ban on transport through Russia. Up to now, freight trains between Russia and Ukraine have been cut off, and all railway freight?terminals?in Ukraine have stopped working. According to the data, trains passing through Ukraine account for less than 3% of the total amount of China-Europe freight train, and most of them have been diverted to "MaIa-Brest". Maersk and other global freight forwarders in their letters to customers claimed that the intercontinental railway service (ICR) through or to and from Russia is still in normal operation.
In addition, the congestion on the eastern route of China-Europe Railway has not been alleviated. The shortage of vehicle plates at Khorgos resulted in a continuous low efficiency in loading.
