China Celebrates 70 years of communist rule

China Celebrates 70 years of communist rule

Since 2012 I have been fortunate enough to visit China many times. In fact currently visiting about 4 times a year. The growth and change is unlike anything I have every witnessed.

I can only imagine it must have been like being brought up in Victorian Britain. The speed of change literally happening in front of your eyes.

It doesn’t feel particularly Communist when you visit. There are clear divides between the haves and have nots.

The road systems are improving with every visit.

The high-speed train line is now longer than the rest of the world high speed network combined.

What I do love thought is that it really feels like you are visitor. Being British, we are spoilt as everywhere we go everyone seems to speak English. Even when you try a “si vous plait”, you get a, “your welcome” back in broken English.

Back in the 80’s Korean brands like Samsung and Lucky Goldstar were almost laughed at. They would never compete with the household Japanese brands. I was a kid that was very much a Sony snob of the 80’s and 90’s.

Now Samsung and LG are light years ahead of the Japanese brands.

I feel that this transition is now happening with Chinese brands. Once ridiculed, the Chinese brands are slowly starting to appear in Europe on a massive scale.

The jewel in the crown is surely Huawei. Having just visited IFA, they booth/stand was phenomenal. They will surely be giving the US and Korean brands a run for their money soon.

Haier, still not maybe a household name, but after the purchase for Hoover Candy, its surely just a matter of time.

Hisense, barely a football tournament goes by where they are not the main sponsor. Didn’t it used to be Sony? Also with their acquisition of Slovenian brand Gorenje the writing is surely on the wall to becoming a staple of the high street in Europe.

To summarise. China is great. Don’t get fooled by the fake western news that we get flooded with. Yes they have their problems but who doesn’t? Again as a Britain living through the Brexit fiasco, its very difficult to throw stones in a glass house.

David, very impressive when you wrote it doesn't feel communist when you visit. The title of communism has led to several controversial remarks from the western politics, most of which has stereotyped China's status as the Soviet Union system back in the age of cold war. Actually it's been a term in name only since the reform and opening-up policy in 1980's when it comes to economic stage. If visitors ignore that title from thier mind, they would find the oriental giant is now taking a path similar to Japan's route in 1960's. Visitors like you have come closed enough to see the overall landscape. Thank you for pointing out from your angle.
