Description

"CHIMERA" is a combined jet propulsion system with solid propellant engines. It is an aerial vehicle using glider-rocket and rocket-type propulsion. The launch of the main UAV is from a height of 5-7 km. Delivery to the launch point is performed by a rocket carrier (reusable).

The main operational part of the Chimera complex is a jet UAV with glider's and maneuvering wings and solid propellant thrust and propulsion engines. It uses rocket engines and glider wings to travel at cruise speeds (150-200 km/h) for long distances (up to 50 km). The jet engines are characterized by a long duration of operation (two engines for 10 minutes), but low thrust indicators.

Glider wings are used to provide flight on the march and do not control the flight direction. At the end of the march or at the moment of transition to the propulsion engine, the glider wings are discarded. Control in flight on the march is provided by the control wings. Glider wings are characterized by a large surface area to provide planning distance. The control wings are slats on servomotors with precise positioning for flight control.

The jet engines of the ?Chimera? UAV's main part consist of two solid propellant rocket engines with 10-minute alternate operation. They provide a planning speed of 150-200 km/h for a total maximum operating time of 20 minutes. Allow to provide the planning distance up to 65 km. It is also equipped with one power jet engine with controllable force and thrust vector. Provides movement of

the ?Chimera? UAV at speeds up to 500 km/h for 5 minutes. Combination of controlled force and thrust vector of "Chimera" jet engine with steering wings allows achieving amazing maneuverability of the product, such as change of direction of the product under the angle of 90° and less, full short-term stop (hovering), etc.

START

A special feature of the ?Chimera? UAV is the launch of the main functional part of the UAV from an altitude of 5-7 km.

The delivery to the launch point is carried out by the second part of the ?Chimera? complex - the rocket booster. The rocket booster is equipped with a solid propellant jet engine and provides enough momentum to take the main unit to an altitude of 5000 meters in 40 seconds (7000 meters up to 1 minute) at an estimated speed of 130 m/s.

At the launch point, the booster detaches from the main functional part of the complex and returns to the ground by free fall up to an altitude of 500 meters, and then descends by parachute. The rocket booster is a reusable element. In order to reuse the booster, the spent rocket engine must be dismantled and disconnected and a new power rocket engine must be connected and assembled.

After reaching the launch point and disconnecting the rocket booster that delivered it, the main functional engine of the ?Chimera? complex is turned on and the glider wings surfaces are extended. The march engines and glider wings provide the flight, the control wings provide the maneuvering available on the march.

FLIGHT / FLIGHT MODES

From the launch point (altitude of 5000-7000 meters) the ?Chimera? moves by planing using the glider wings and the constant impulse of the marching jet engines. The switch from operation from 1st to 2nd cruise engine is made by overlapping start of the 2nd engine 10 seconds before the end of operation of the 1st engine. The total time of the marching pulse of the two engines is 20 minutes. The marching part of the complex is undocked from the main missile as the marching engines and the planning mode are completed, or at the moment of activation of the main missile.

The last part of the ?Chimera? complex is a rocket-propelled cruise missile with a power engine (the main missile) that boosts the product to 120-140 m./s.

The engine of this part is equipped with equidirectional pressure relief points, located up to the nozzle-concentrator, which allows to adjust the thrust of the jet engine, and accordingly the speed, reducing it to extremely low values.

The engine is also equipped with pressure relief points with each point separately controlled by solenoids. This equipment makes it possible to control the

direction of movement from the rear. In combination with the control wings at the front, the product is extremely maneuverable.

Estimated rotation angle of the product can reach less than 90°.

The most important part of the ?Chimera? complex is the main part and is equipped with monitoring and control equipment, power supply (12-5-3.7V), visual control and telemetry equipment, etc.

The visual control equipment is located in a transparent protected dome in the head part of the product

PURPOSE OF THE ?CHIMERA? COMPLEX

------------------------

Chimera is a mythological fire-breathing creature combining three species (lion head, goat body, snake tail).

The ?Chimera? Complex is a combination of three elements: a rocket booster for delivery to a launch point (a snake for its characteristic trace), a marching part (a goat - a transporter), and the main missile (a lion's head). In view of the objective analogy, the UAV complex with a mixed system of jet engines of various modes received the working name "Chimera". Similar marking of the design, documentation, acronyms and abbreviations, designations of parts, elements and parts.

The readiness of the preliminary design solution is December 2022.
