CHIMEI and ITRI’s Fixed Carbon PC Technology Wins R&D 100 Awards

This technology is playing a pivotal role in our ongoing battle against climate change, and we can't wait to share our progress with you.
What’s CCU?
It captures carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions right at their source, primarily from energy production or industrial processes, and separates CO2 from other flue gases. The CO2 then undergoes a purification process, leaving behind only clean, concentrated CO2, ready for the next phase. This innovative approach not only significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also creates a useful end product from what was previously treated as waste.
Our CCU Journey: Progress and Milestones
Since 2023, our dedicated team of scientists and engineers has been making progress in CCU development. Their tireless efforts have culminated in the construction of a pilot plant, a cornerstone of our mission to capture and repurpose CO2 emissions from our production processes. The successful operation of this pilot plant marks a significant step towards our ambition of creating a circular economy within CHIMEI.
Embracing a Sustainable and Circular Future with Fixed Carbon Polycarbonate (PC) Technology
This innovative initiative, projected for commercialization by 2026, is a key step towards incorporating circular economy principles into our polycarbonate (PC) manufacturing process. We've already established our CCU Polycarbonate (PC) Technology, boasting a capacity of 24 kg/day for carbon capture and 60 kg/day for DRC production. The DRC is then transesterified to DPC for CCU Polycarbonate (PC) production. This approach not only aligns perfectly with our green philosophy but also effectively utilizes CO2 recycling, integrating it into our sustainability portfolio to manufacture low-carbon emission polycarbonate (PC).
Celebrating Our Success: The 2024 R&D 100 Awards
We're exiciting to announce that CHIMEI Corporation, in collaboration with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), has been honored at the prestigious 2024 R&D 100 Awards for our innovative "Fixing Flue Gas CO2 into Polycarbonate Resin" technology. This recognition, often dubbed the "Oscars of Innovation," is a testament to our unwavering commitment to pioneering carbon capture and utilization technology in the production of high-performance plastics.
Our technology, jointly developed by CHIMEI and ITRI, stood out among entries from 16 countries and regions, earning recognition in the "Mechanical/Materials" category. Kuo Ming-Chou, Vice President of CHIMEI’s R&D Division, expressed his delight, "This award is a great recognition of our years of commitment to the R&D of environmentally friendly technologies. We will continue to invest resources to promote further innovative technologies and strive to achieve the goal of sustainable development.”
