Children are a gift from God

I'm sharing this with every parent.

Your may differ from ours, but because we are reaping the benefits I'm sharing. Hope this may help someone to invest more in kids better than used to be. Results guaranteed.

My Eldest - 10+ yrs. Second is 5+ yrs. Youngest is 2+ yrs.

{All are learning most essential writing, communication and mindset skills, vocational knowledge, social impact skills and familywork}

Before we had kids, myself & wife agreed that kids should be raised by us (not domestic helpers/grandparents) and they should learn from us first before anyone else.

We decided, even if we send them to a local school, they go there just to hang around with other kids coming from different backgrounds and do sports. Not book work.

Of course I had a pretty uncomfortable time making my wife understand this bitter truth. So I involved her in my volunteer activities too. After that she witnessed what I’ve been trying to tell her.

We never sent our kids to school thinking school should build our children because we know the reality as we've been a couple who had been blessed to voluntarily work with the kids & youth from different levels in different parts of this beautiful island, for more than 6years now. We saw the differences in schools, teaching mentality, kids behaviors, family issues etc.

And also I had the privilege to conduct workshops with teachers/educators to practice activity based learning.

When we do these workshops, many times, I think where is the born leader in these children ?? Where is the born leader in these teachers ?? Where are the creative genes ??

The funny part is, when we ask simple questions from teachers they do not reply at once.

So because we witness the disaster, we did not want to handover our kid’s future to anyone else.

We believe, Children are a gift from God; they are a reward from him.

We cannot force others to do what we do, but we always tried to educate parents & educators to look serious on this matter.

Because of our crazy mindset & our own ways many times we were humiliated, but now we are reaping the benefits. Especially we saw how stressful the parents because of these lockdowns and no school operates now.

We had zero stress in educating our kids even when schools were shutdown for nearly 2 years now. We never bothered about it. Yet, our kids do maths, english, sinhala and many career & social skills development activities taught by my wife. Honestly speaking rest of the curriculum we do not bother at all.

The interesting part is, me & wife both, what our careers are totally opposite what we learnt at school or uni. I was engaged in IT. Now I do something else. Not even closer to IT. My wife was engaged in airlines now she is into completely different career. Crazy isn’t it.

So what I want to share with every parent who read this, you may agree or you may laugh, but just pause for awhile and think of the future of your kids and kids around you.

What we do Anyone can do it. And you can do better than how we do.

It is not something out of this world. Never complex your family life. You don’t need luxury to do this. But you need TIME & HEART to make it successful. That too possible if you plan and take a decision to leave the corporate rat race. Higher the risk higher the return.

Final Tip !!!

Take conscious time to spend a quality time with your family every single day. Listen to the problems they bring to you. Train your kids to solve it as a team.

Of course you can give them tips to look at problems in a different way not exactly as a problem, but never give the solution to them. They know how to find the solutions better than adults. Make sure you watch how they implement the solution etc. Also never say you go and ask your mom, I'm too busy now come later, don't shout I’m at work etc... Build a engaging culture at home. It’s FAMILY.

Remember, Children learn from you first. Not from outside.

When you consciously observe your kids (especially upto age 12) you will know which career path good for the kids. So you can focus and help them to master those skills. You have less stress and laser focus on their learning journey. No need to spend money on sending every tuition class or extra curricular activity class exist under the sun and make their childhood miserable.

My advice is both parents should make themselves available. It is possible for anyone really want to experience the true joy you want to see in your FAMILY.
