Childhood lost

If asked the question,
"Do you remember childhood?"
what would you answer?

For most a true mix,
fun and traumatic moments,
trophies and bullies.

Of course balloons burst,
brothers, sisters, little, big,
gave us tough moments.

Our wars, make-believe,
we took turns being bad guys,
played cops and robbers.

Protected childhood
belongs to a privileged class,
not to everyone.

For too many kids,
poverty, death, destruction,
slavery and abuse.
