CHILDBIRTH
CHILDBIRTH METHODS
THE VAGINAL AND CAESARIAN METHODS
Vaginal birth or delivery is the most common type of birth. It can be described as a natural birth process which does not usually require significant medical intervention. It is the birth of an offspring or babies in humans through the vagina, also known as the “birth canalâ€. All women who deliver vaginally will experience all three phases of labor though some may not notice the first phase at all.
Some benefits have been recorded as associated with vaginal births which are; shorter hospital stay, cheaper service, faster recovery, avoided risks associated with major surgery amongst others.
Caesarean birth is a procedure also known as C-section, it is a surgical procedure used to deliver a baby when a vaginal delivery cannot be done safely. Although, some women now opt for caesarean birth freely as preferred method of delivery even in the absence of medical complications. Most people who undergo caesarean births, are less likely to suffer from urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, lower risk of the baby experiencing trauma while passing through the birth canal, lower risk of the baby being deprived of oxygen during delivery.
PS: Some women would prefer to birth vaginally if there were no medical complications instead of going through the caesarian birth that would leave scars on their bodies and leave them bed ridden for a week or two, while some others would love to go through caesarian section if they were financially capable in order to avoid going through the stages of labor. Majority prefer vaginal birth as they feel it is a natural method.
