Child Exploitation - Genesis, denouement, and resolution
I felt moved to write this post after going through a report of innocent, gullible, helpless orphans being sold off by the very NGO's who were supposed to take care of them...
Children DO NOT need to have maimed, murdered or martyred parents. They need parents who are alive, active and affectionate...
Across the globe, the worst sufferers in any conflict are children, victims of bestiality, brutality and barbarism...
Such children not only find themselves compromised socio-economically, wherein their very survival & subsistence is threatened but open for exploitation too, be it sexual or economic...
And all these manifestations are further compounded by a deeply embedded and eternalised psychological scarring, leading to an assortment of complexes, personality disorders, substance abuse, academic non-performance, social insecurities & stigmatisation, coupled with a profound sense of loss and grief which may be stifled by many for the lack of proper counselling & care or given vent to in the form of violent, anti-social behaviour with compliance issues in tow...
As a parent, it breaks my heart, every time an innocent angel is thrown in a cauldron of death, despair, despondency & desperation for no fault of theirs...
I wonder
- Don't we owe it to our kids to be always responsible so as to ensure their healthy , productive and conscientious upbringing...
- Don't we owe it to our spouses to be dependable so as to ensure their welfare, fulfill obligations and live up to our marital commitments...
- Don't we owe it to our parents to be dependable so as to prove worthy of our upbringing, fulfill our duties to them & ensure their peaceful lives...
I am neither here to dissect, debate or deliberate upon the geo-politics, "real-politick", or the ground realities in conflict zones, globally, nor pass my judgements, proffer justifications or pontificate on the role of state / non-state actors or even the ill-fated & innocent civilians caught in a perennial crossfire but to bring home the fact that we need
- a re-engineering of our purpose,
- a revamp of our collective conscience,
- a recalibration of our thought processes,
- a restructuring of our response mechanisms
And of course,
- a realignment with reality...
For
- the pain inflicted is too much to bear
- the loss imposed is too big to manage
- the death ensured is too tragic to mourn
- the dignity tarnished is too difficult to reinstate
