Chiefs beat the Eagles; Towson U. search is on for president; Campbell staying on with Ravens

Good morning! Hope you had a great Super Bowl Sunday! The game turned out to be quite the nail biter. The Kansas City Chiefs prevailed over the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in a game that was exciting until the final seconds. Sorry to my family and friends in Philadelphia. The Eagles played a great game. And congrats to my Kansas City friends, especially Bob Silvy and Brian Kaberline.

Here's what you need to know to get your day started.

Mahomes roars back in second half

Patrick Mahomes showed the world why he won MVP this year. The Chiefs quarterback limped off the field with a bad ankle at the end of the first half only to return in the second stronger than ever. The Chiefs erased a 10-point deficit and dominated the second half before winning on a field goal in the final seconds.“I thought the guys accepted the challenge,” said Mahomes, who was named the game’s MVP. “It was a crazy year, but we ended up on top.” Washington Post

Ranking the Super Bowl ads

What was your favorite Super Bowl ad? I loved the Workday "rock star" ads. Local ad guru David Warschawski delves a bit deeper than like or dislike when looking at this year's ads. He once again offered BBJ readers a ranking based on effectiveness of the Super Bowl ads. He wasn't too pleased with many of the spots. Baltimore Business Journal

Towson U. search kicks off

The University System of Maryland on Friday said it approved the search and screening committee to find a new president for Towson University. USM Regent Ellen Fish will chair the committee, along with students, faculty, staff, alumni and other stakeholders, the Board of Regents said in a news release. The new president will replace Kim Schatzel, who left to become the president of University of Louisville on Feb. 1. Other members of the committee include former state School Superintendent Nancy Grasmick; Gary Gill, CEO of Mackenzie Ventures; Jeff Rosen, managing partner, Rosen, Sapperstein, and Friedlander LLC; and Emily Brophy, president of the Towson Chamber of Commerce.

Schatzel talks business

Meanwhile, Schatzel seems to be settling in nicely at her new school. The former Towson president, in an interview with the BBJ's sister paper, Louisville Business First, talked about the importance of her business background in ramping up in her new job. “Someone with my skillsets as a businessperson and running a business and running larger organizations, those skillsets and experiences became more valuable in terms of that new normal for higher education,” Schatzel said. Campbell says he's coming back to Ravens

And since our tired minds will still be focused on football today, here's some good news. Defensive End Calais Campbell plans to return to the Baltimore Ravens to play his 16th season. “I’m coming back, baby,” Campbell said at the end of a guest stint on NFL Network’s Super Bowl coverage. A fan favorite, Campbell made six Pro Bowls and was named Walter Payton Man of the Year after the 2019 season. He joined the Ravens in the 2020 season after the team traded for him. Baltimore Sun
