Chief Executive Officer Hugo Schreuder appointed to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) Board of Directors.

On Monday, 5 December 2022, Chief Executive Officer Hugo Schreuder will join Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania (RACT) Chief Insurance Officer Paul Sofronoff LL.B, LL.M, MBA, MAICD as the latest appointment to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) Board of Directors.

Hugo will join eleven passionate general insurance leaders on the Board to guide ICA on its purpose of being the voice for a resilient Australia.

Hugo said, "This is an exciting time to be part of the ICA Board.”

"The general insurance industry plays a critical role in the economy to protect Australians from material financial losses. Without this protection, economic growth and the ability to take on risk will be severely restricted," he said.

"Being a member of the ICA Board aligns with our Vision of building trust with industry bodies and also allows me to advocate the incredible role the general insurance industry plays to create a resilient Australia."

CEO Insurance Council of Australia Andrew Hall said, "The appointments of Hugo and Paul to the ICA Board come at a time of great forward momentum for the general insurance industry, particularly our role in spearheading the creation of a more resilient Australia by guiding government policy and investment."

Hugo Schreuder began his insurance career in South Africa in 2003 at OUTsurance and is the founding Chief Executive Officer of Youi Insurance , which has been operating for 14 years.

Hugo has taken Youi from a start-up to its current position of earning over $1 billion in gross written premium. He was instrumental in diversifying Youi's products and introduced Blue Zebra Insurance as a new broker distribution partner.

Hugo is a Chartered Accountant with a track record of successfully scaling businesses and building brands. At Youi, he drives a strong culture and continues to push the boundaries as a challenger insurer.

Hugo holds Board positions on the Youi, Blue Zebra Insurance and AutoGuru boards.
