AIR 6500 is the Royal Australian Air Force’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that maximises the sensor capabilities offered by 5th Generation systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, improving situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making in the joint engagement zone.

LMA is now looking to find a highly skilled, experienced and motivated leader to join us as our Chief Engineer for AIR6500. This is no ordinary role!
With a deep understanding of customers’ and stakeholders’ needs, the successful candidate will be accountable for overall E&T technical, cost, and schedule performance on the AIR6500 project. This is not a role for the faint hearted; having previously held a similar position is crucial to success. Focussing on project execution, understanding cost hot-points that impact the project and monitoring the project performance are all key elements. Possessing the vision to shape the technical solution is paramount.
Key Skills required:
- Budget planning and staffing
- Significant Experience in C4ISR including areas such as;
- Command & Control
- Air Battle Management
- Comms – datalinks and voice
- Electronic Warfare
- Integrated Air & Missile Defence
- Sensors – active/passive
- Significant Engineering Management experience within a Defence engineering and regulatory framework
- Proven experience in Control Account Management Technical risk
- Experience in resource planning and competency management
- Significant experience in Systems of Systems integration programs
- Demonstrated experience working on large complex programs
You will ideally have a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent experience/combined education.
This is a challenging role, that requires a passionate and hardworking individual, as the overall technical lead for the AIR6500 engineering team and the prime key contact for all key stakeholders, you will have impeccable communication skills as well as demonstrable prior experience in a similar role
