Chief Design Officer, Felipe Latorre, to Serve as Co-Founder of Alchemy Vision

Today, we are proud to announce that Felipe Latorre has been appointed a co-founder of Alchemy Vision.

Previously navigating the role of VP of Design at Alchemy Vision since our launch in 2021, Felipe guides the company's growth and evolution through human-centered design. Felipe previously worked for a variety of non-profits, start-ups, and Fortune 500 companies as a visual communicator.

“A big influence on what I bring to Alchemy comes from my time working at Apple as a Creative.?During that time, I was taught how to teach complex technological subjects in simple and elegant ways, to students of all ages and backgrounds. I learned to use graspable analogies, and in many cases graphic design, to educate and inspire customers; ensuring them along the way that they’d be more than capable of editing a movie or crafting a beautiful presentation all on their own.?That experience translates over seamlessly now, when we craft lessons about complex clinical procedures and ophthalmic terminology, which are then taught to young people that may be completely new to the world of eye care.”

Our decision to appoint Felipe as cofounder + Chief Design Officer was made strategically. Felipe described the decision firsthand:

“Society in recent years has been calling for more diversity and inclusion, especially in the workplace. This is a positive shift, because having people of different ages, genders, and backgrounds in the room, brings unique perspectives to discussions of how to run a business.?Since I’m an ophthalmology outsider, a millennial, and a user-centric designer, I bring a valuable set of perspectives and ideas that could help Alchemy stand out as a fresh offering in the industry.?Furthermore, adding Flora and Mitch to the mix, we balance each other out and can collectively craft products and messaging that speaks to both older and newer generations of doctors, practice administrators, and of course, technicians.”

Felipe then brought up a crucial perspective Alchemy Vision believes in – evolution is inevitable. Our very best defense to solving a problem that’s been unsolved for decades is to do what no one else has done before. We believe that the experiences Felipe brings to our company serve this purpose well.?

“I think most designers are drawn to industries that are very mature, because that’s when they’re ripe for positive disruption and thoughtful innovation.?It’s the creative’s mantra of “Why is this like that, when it could be like this?” It’s because of this concept, that when Flora told me that what we’re doing has never been done before in Ophthalmology, I was hooked and sold by the potential.”

When asked about his ideas on the future of Alchemy Vision, Felipe replied,?“I think we have the perfect trifecta of purpose that drives what we do.?We’re filling a very real and urgent need in the market.?We’re indirectly helping patients and supporting doctors through the training and education of their staff.?Knowing that our raison d’être is to inspire eye care staff to feel more confident, empowered, and know that what they do on a regular basis really matters. I can’t speak for all designers, but for me, the reason why I do what I do is to know that my work will make someone’s life better and/or easier. At the end of the day, all anyone wants to do is feel like they’re contributing to others.”?
