One of the key highlights of the week in Annecy??Director Guillermo del Toro's masterclass. The acclaimed filmmaker took to the stage to proclaim his love for stop-motion animation, before going on to tell animators to embrace their 'weirdness'... only del Toro could get away with that.?
The market has been bustling and?major studios keep unveiling some truly unique animated titles, demonstrating the increasing audience appetites for these types of family-friendly, and even sometimes adult-geared works of art. Specifically,?the teams at Netflix took to the stage to unveil first footage for?Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, set to arrive 23 years after the cult classic original,?Chicken Run.?

Julien Figue, Deputy Director of the M6 Group's kid-friendly channels, including Gulli
Coming from a decades-long career in the industry, passing through Lagardère before heading over to the M6 group where he now occupies his current position,?Julien Figue is nothing short of an industry veteran.?
He has his ears to the concrete when it comes to kid and family-friendly content, and oversees all of the group's children's programs and channels. Speaking with Le Dispatch,?Figue spoke about the recent success that Gulli, the M6 group's free-to-air television channel focused on kids programming for those aged 3-14, has found as of late,?while also unveiling some of the group's upcoming projects.?

The CNC asserts that France is the world's 3rd greatest producer of animated content??
Unveiled yesteday at the Mifa market, France's national film body released the rest of its 2022 study on French market animation trends.?According to the film body, executive production was at its highest in 2022, with spending nearly doubling compared to 2019 figures.?
The CNC also?noted the decrease in American animated titles being offered in French theaters, which hasn't had the best impacts on cinema attendance despite the diverse offering. All in all, the study notes some challenges ahead, but maintains an air of optimism about the state of the animation market that's so close to the hearts of French audiences.
