Chicken barn with mountain view: welcome to Kobi Zeller
Our dear Kobi Ei, the second producer we would like to present, as part of our new serie, “A Careful Selection By Martin G?schelâ€.
From Kobi's house you can see the majestic silhouette of The Alpina Gstaad. Less than 500 meters away as the crow flies, a bit under 3 minutes car drive, a slightly slower journey as the hen flies.
On the road to Gsteig, just a few meters from the Wispile chairlift, is the "Kobi Ei" laying hen farm, which supplies The Alpina Gstaad with fresh eggs every day.
If you are visiting Gstaad, there is no doubt that Kobi's eggs have already landed on your plate or in your cakes.
2,000 laying hen
Kobi built the small wooden barn in which he has been raising his 2,000 laying hens since 1995 on the vast land he inherited from his parents, former cattle farmers.
His hens, beautiful hens with long brown plumage and a few white ones that stand out from the crowd, live a mostly open-air life (from 8am to 7pm), surrounded by mountains, fresh herbs... and a monastic silence.

The diet for these elegant ladies is not rocket science or unpronounceable: the Kobi chickens feed mainly on corn, grass meal and spring water. A 100% vegetable diet, without antibiotics or medication.
Every morning, with the help of his wife Lydia and their 3 employees, they calibrate, clean, date and manually pack nearly 2000 eggs. Delivered the same day to The Alpina Gstaad, these are eggs of incomparable freshness that you will find in your plates.
Good to know
Kobi Ei has a self-service farm market, where you can get its fresh eggs every day, 24 hours a day.
