Chicago takes center stage for the DNC: The news that broke through this week
We're back with our next installment of what broke through for the media this week, and as you might expect it's very politics focused. The DNC kicked off in Chicago just yesterday, and the last week has seen significant levels of coverage in the lead up to the convention.
Chicago welcomes the Democrats
Every social platform had the DNC front of mind this week, even before the beginning of the actual convention. The top news story of any came from 纽约时报 , looking at the city's efforts to clean itself up before the arrival of the politicians.
MSNBC came out ahead of all others with its TikTok coverage this week, featuring a joint event between Joe Biden and Kamala Harris that saw more than 1.5 million engagements. Meanwhile, NowThis leaned into the meme du jour to frame voting as "very demure, very mindful". If you don't know what that means, ask your resident millennial who's desperately trying to keep up with internet culture (for NewsWhip , sadly this is me).

Taylor Swift is still a powerhouse months into her Eras tour
Cutting through the political noise was Taylor Swift, who still is able to drive media attention like almost no other celebrity. Several narratives about the singer songwriter were prominent this week, and once again a local interest story was one of the most resonant — a timeless American classic about a young girl running a lemonade stand to be able to afford to go to the concert, published by local Chicago outlet ABC 7 Chicago .
The European leg of Swift's tour also got attention this week, as Ed Sheeran joined her on stage in London to play an extensive medley of hits. This was covered by the likes of the Today show and TMZ.
