Chewing Over 2024

Chewing Over 2024

I did a twitter thread summarising my year in 12 tweets, 20 pics and 5 vids so I'm bringing it here too! Hope you've enjoyed my increased LinkedIn content and engagement this year. More planned for 2025 and beyond!

So… 2024.?

Thanks for coming!

Here’s a THREAD reflecting on some key wins for me personally, us as a family and as a business group.

It’s been a crucial year for us in many ways, particularly for setting firm foundations for the future at home and at work.?

Test & Control turn 5 on the 20th Dec (??) so I’m making that a hard stop to the working year… if Jan’s MSKMag is ready… ????

Here’s a rather self-indulgent month by month account of the year but I’m especially proud to ‘share our wins’ this year as many of them could have easily gone the other way!

Have a lovely Christmas and New Year folks. X

P.s. Yes, there’s a Christmas vid this year…

1st Jan 2024 we launched #MSKMag at no further cost to Physio Matters members.?

We were keen to become a truly multimedia publisher and the written form was a frontier we had been avoiding.

It’s fair to say that it has gone down rather well! By September of this year we hit 500,000 views and this month we went to print! Again at no additional cost to our loyal and supportive members.

Here’s cover 1 online and cover 12 in print! ??

In Feb we launched the latest development of our Timperley Trundle public health scheme; ‘Trundle Together’.

Thanks to our friends at Simply Cycling, Stamford Park and Timperley Sports Club, we demonstrated how interval training principles can be applied to all ages and abilities!

In April we started work on our house which has been seriously neglected for the last couple of years!?

Fitting a shower that doesn’t overload the Victorian wiring has meant showers can now last over 30s… this has improved mood and hygiene… but cost us productivity! ?? ???

May reminded me what my red line feels like! ????

We built the new CH-HQ and dismantled the old one in a month. ??

I was also once again reminded that I can always fall back on being a joiner AND that Char is a superior decorator!?

June 2024 was the 5th and final #TherapyLive!?

The project that kept our business alive by the skin of our teeth in COVID was wrapped up on our own terms with a fantastic event.

The streets will never forget 22,500 sharing an educational experience and moving the MSK needle at a time where other industries went backwards.

PANIC NOT, Physio Matters will be continuing and developing our events work. But those 10 stream, 130 speaker Therapy Live days are behind us! ?????

In July we went on a quite passive holiday. ????

We quite liked it and might try it again in 2030.?

In August I realised we were legally and morally obliged to send the boys to school in Sept so lived in the van with them in various national parks hoping I could slow time down.?

I failed to do so, but we had some fun and learned some new skills in new toys.?

In October I wrapped up my two years on CSP council. It was at least 4 years shorter than I intended so I’ll get around to telling that full story in the new year.?

But it’s well worth a mention here because I worked with a lovely group which really gave change a chance.?

In November we reached 100 5 Star Google reviews for the clinic!?

It was a great reason to read back over them and in doing so, I reflected on just how profoundly we are helping individuals, families and our community.

I’m especially proud of how much we continue to broaden the horizons of what is possible as an MSK service.?

Here’s one such example:

And here’s December! ??????

Our OA Masterclass event tipped us over 75,000 total event attendees since 2019 and the recordings were added to our 750+ strong content library which continues to be used to great effect by thousands of clinicians of all stripes across the world.

It remains such a privilege to work for you all and I will continue to ask myself the following primary question every day:

Am I doing all I can to raise MSK care standards?

Our biggest achievement this year actually blurs across the months and it’s our partnership working. Helping projects who share our mission.?

Here’s a handful of examples:

- Tim Allardyce at Rehab My Patient, your support is unwavering and unbelievably appreciated.?

- Michelle G. and Joel at Cliniko, I’m so excited for what we can achieve together in these coming years for health tech.?

- Jo Turner at Mehab, you are a friend, colleague, mentor, mentee, coach and inspiration… usually all in the same day… before breakfast! ?

- Katie Knapton at Physio First, I fancied myself a ‘reformer’ until I witnessed you in full flight! ?? Thanks for having me in your orbit.

- Athanase (Athan) Kollias et al at Kinvent, you’ve built some lovely assessment hardware! So looking forward to making content together.?

- Michael Schumacher & Hannah H. at HMDG, what a journey! So proud of you. Stick around plz.?

BUT… An admission…

I’m the lanky, loudmouth that stands on the shoulders of the following giants:

Char, Jim, Flic, Rob, Fran, Justin, Charlotte, Farouk, Rich, Laura, Jon, Fio & Vicky; the most brilliant and patient team I could ever hope for!?

FINALLY, thanks so much to you, our incredible community of practice, who contribute content, feedback, engagement and inspiration.?

Our writers, podcast guests, event speakers and panellists continue to raise the bar every year and give me continued optimism that we can lift healthcare through evidence informed, functional rehabilitation.

Have a great Christmas! Xxx

Keep on keeping on Jack, that's a great span of achievements! Delighted to have connected with you this year through chatting on the podcast and teaching on the masterclass, with the bonus of IRL (not Ireland, maybe next time!) at the CSP conference ?? Your willingness to listen & entertain reconsidering previous stances is refreshing in a world of sometimes very entrenched views. And finally .... Always in support! ??

Tiling?!……..Now thats just overachieving Jack. It’s such a good idea to do this - we forget how much we actually do in a year that always seems to fly. Amazing work you’re doing, in all spheres of your life. I love being along for the ride.
