Cherishing Every Moment: Making Memories with Family

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to spend a beautiful evening with my parents over a delicious shabu-shabu meal in one of Manila's gems. These moments are precious to me, especially since my parents live in the province and our time together is often too short. I have made it my mission to make each gathering memorable, and yesterday was no different.

Creating Memories

In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in our routines and forget what's truly important. For me, it's about cherishing my parents and creating memories with them. One of the main reasons I left Australia was to be closer to them in the Philippines. They're aging, and being nearby means being there in moments of need and living through more shared experiences.

Every visit is an opportunity. Whether it's finding a new place to eat or trying out new activities in the city, I invest this time in making each visit a unique one. It's a simple lesson—making memories is something we carry with us forever.

Honoring Our Parents

Relationships with parents can be complex. We might not always see eye to eye on matters like religion, politics, or other life choices. Yet, they remain our parents, and it's vital to honor, accept, and love them. It’s a value that resonates deeply within me, inspired by the promise of long life and good fortune that comes from honoring our parents.

I express my gratitude and love for them through words. I regularly tell them how much I love and care for them, and thank them for their sacrifices. From childhood through my education, despite financial hardships, they did everything possible to provide for us. They worked tirelessly as government employees to give us a good education, which I am immensely thankful for.

In Action and Involvement

Words are powerful, but actions speak volumes. I assist them with practical matters, like taking them for their annual medical check-ups, something we have planned for the coming month, or traveling together so they can experience the joys I have in my travels. There's joy in seeing the world through their eyes.

Surprising them on special occasions is another way I show my love and appreciation. Whether it's planning a birthday surprise or a random visit, these acts create bonds and memories that are invaluable.

Listening to their wisdom is another aspect of honoring them. I involve them in my life decisions, seeking their advice in personal and professional matters. Their experience is a treasure trove of wisdom, having navigated life years before I did.

Unconditional Love

The parent-child bond teaches us about unconditional love. We choose our friends and partners but not our parents. Even if we had the option, the bond we share with our parents is unbreakable and destined from the moment we are born. It's a reflection of enduring love, one that teaches us to honor, respect, and embrace the relationship.
