ChenMedders Host a 70s Prom That Inspires Long-Lasting Love from Its King and Queen
On Thursday, October 13, JenCare Senior Medical Center and United Healthcare hosted a “Groovin’ 1970s Prom for Seniors” to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. This very special event for seniors took place at The Alley – New Market Square in Newport News, Virginia. Congressman Bobby Scott and Norfolk State Basketball legend Vivian Green Brown were among hundreds that attended this nostalgic event, featuring retro-music from the Motown Era and the “Soul Train Line Dance.” JenCare Senior Medical Center organized the Senior Prom as a way to lift the spirits (and the feet!) of its beloved senior patients and their guests, while also allowing them to have fun getting dressed up, socializing, and attending a great party.
The highlight of this event was the 70’s Dance Contest and the coronation of JenCare’s Senior Prom King and Queen. This year, Rosalind Taylor, a spry 72-year-old from New York City, and David George, a 74- year-old hometown Hampton heartthrob, stole the hearts of the crowd, which crowned them as the Royal Couple by unanimous vote. Guests said the cute couple epitomized what it means to live life to the fullest. “JenCare’s staff really made us feel like a real King and Queen. It was so special to go back in time and relive our twenties. We did dances like “Walking the Dog,” and I even got to 'drop it like it’s hot!' We danced so hard that we forgot that we had sciatica and arthritis!” said Rosalind Taylor. This event offered the opportunity for some to experience a prom for the first time. “I never had the chance to go to my Prom because I left high school early to begin my career as a shipyard welder,” said David George.
While this moment was special to both, JenCare means so much more to this couple than just a crown and scepter. Rosalind and David, share a zeal for life which includes staying on top of their health! They found love in a retirement space! Their paths crossed while they were both living in the same senior apartment community. They struck an immediate attraction to one another. George was smitten by Rosalind’s beauty and style, many conversations followed, and they discovered they had much in common, including the recent loss of their significant others.

The two have been inseparable since the day they met. Rosalind and David found a love for one another as well as a love for their Nurse Practitioner, Danita Mitchell at JenCare Senior Medical Center – Newport News. George struggled for years with diabetes, having to check his blood sugar several times a day, and taking Insulin. But, George’s life changed as Nurse Practitioner Danita was able to successfully regulate his blood sugar with just one pill a day. Rosalind, too, is grateful for JenCare’s management of her chronic conditions, which has led to better health. “Everyone wants to feel like they have a doctor that understands, shows concern, and fulfills all your needs,” says Rosalind, who is also a retired Medical Assistant.
The couple understands that living life to the fullest means doing all that is necessary to stay well. They laugh, dance, attend their preventative care appointments at JenCare regularly, and even make it a point to dress up for the occasion. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this year Rosalind has plans to get her 3D Mammogram wearing her Royal Blue prom dress, sash, and crown with the prom king, and life partner, David George by her side.
