ChenMedders Honor a Patient in Need
At ChenMed, our Serving and giving Day is all about giving back to the community. Whether it's doing laundry for seniors or collecting canned goods to pass out to needy families, each of our centers in various cities across the country come up with a way to give back. Well, employees at a South Florida center decided to go one step further.?
The Miami Gardens team decided to assemble baskets of non-perishable Thanksgiving foods and deliver them to their neediest patients. The Care Teams drove to their patients’ homes to surprise them with baskets.
“It was so meaningful,” said Center Director, Rob Rosenbaum. “One of the patients said he’s lived in his home for two years and has never had a visitor. We were the first ones, and he was so appreciative.”
After successfully delivering all the baskets to their neediest patients and commencing their Serving & Giving Day, three team members felt their job wasn’t quite finished yet. Care Promoters, Victor Garcia and Acasia Delgado, and Care Facilitator, Gabriella Mattar decided there was one more patient they wanted to do this for. They took it upon themselves to purchase essentials, including socks which the patient mentioned they needed. They put together not one, but two baskets on their own and delivered it to the patient’s home that evening.
“The patient was so happy she started crying and even gave me a call that same night to tell me how much she loved everything. She told me she put on the new socks we got her,” recalls Mattar.

“This act speaks for itself. This is something they did on their own and I was so impressed,” added Rosenbaum. “Here at ChenMed we do such a good job of recruiting people who care, and this just takes ‘caring’ to the next level. We get so much out of seeing our patients happy.”
