The Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) recently released the 2023 work plan for the special inspection on safety management of 35 hazardous chemicals (Hazchem) throughout their manufacture, import, operation and use, focusing on the implementation status of certain obligations, e.g., Hazchem registration, labeling, SDS, hazard identification and classification, etc. (Read more)

On May 5, 2023, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) issued a notice to seek public comments on the updates to South Korea’s Existing Chemical Substance Inventory (KECI). The authority proposed to disclose the chemical name of 210 substances, which previously applied for confidential information protection with only generic names and their data protection validity has expired. Any comments are welcome before May 24, 2023. (Read more)

On May 8, 2023, European Commission announced in the official journal to amend Annex XVII to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH Regulation), seeking to restrict the placing on the market or use of lead and its compounds in polymers or copolymers of vinyl chloride (PVC). On May 20, 2023, Canada’s Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) published a Draft State of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Report and a Risk Management Scope for PFAS in the Canada Gazette. The Report assesses the potential impacts of PFAS substances on human health and the environment. The Risk Management Scope for PFAS outlines the proposed risk management options under consideration and gathers information to identify and prioritize options for minimizing exposure to PFAS.
