Chemical Injection Systems

Chemical Injection Systems

Chemical feed injection systems, as essential components in water and wastewater treatment processes, play a crucial role in maintaining safety standards. These systems deliver precise amounts of chemicals, such as chlorine, acids, alkaline, or coagulants, to control water quality. They ensure the correct dosage of chemicals is injected into a system to achieve desired chemical reactions, such as disinfection, pH control, or corrosion prevention. Automation enhances their efficiency, allowing real-time adjustments based on system feedback.

Self-contained feed systems usually use a frame/skid constructed of HDPE with components pre-piped together. Metering pumps are generally the heart of the system and are combined with calibration columns, back pressure valves, pressure relief valves, pressure gauges, and true union valves. Metering pumps are typically paced by an external signal generated by the instrument measuring the controlled parameter.

These systems typically include the following components:

  • Thermoplastic Floor skid or Wall-mounted panel
  • 1 (or more) Chemical Feed pump(s): Diaphragm or Peristaltic
  • Isolation valves: Ball or Diaphragm
  • Suction Strainer
  • Pressure Control Valves: Relief & Back Pressure
  • Degassing Valve(s): (for off-gassing chemicals like sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, or concentrated sulfuric acid)
  • Pulsation Damper (eliminates harmful pressure spikes and creates a smooth chemical feed)
  • Pressure Gauge with Diaphragm seal
  • Calibration Column (used to set up the system correctly and to verify that all is working correctly over time)
  • Injection Quill or Corp Stop: (Shipped separately) (sized to inject the chemical into the center of the pipe and eliminate backflow)
  • Power and Control Signal(s) Enclosure
  • Chemically Compatible Piping

Enclosed Simple System

Chemical feed systems are technical components and critical tools in industrial and municipal applications. They are vital in maintaining proper chemical balance and are essential for environmental safety and regulatory compliance. Properly maintained systems help prevent under- or over-dosing, which could lead to harmful conditions or inefficiencies in the treatment process.

To select the ideal chemical injection system for your application process, we need to know the following:

  • Floor or Wall space
  • Power available: Electrical components and enclosures are NEMA 4X
  • Pumped chemistry and chemical concentration
  • Pump sizing information:
  • - Min/Max Flow rate (GPH/LPH/GPD/LPD) (Upsize the maximum flow by 25-50%)
  • - Maximum output pressure (You will want at least 110% of the pressure in your pipe)
  • - Input control signal Preferred brand or type (Proportional pulse/4-20 mA)
  • Chemical Tank(s) needed:
  • - Daily - weekly volume used (depends on the expected use and chemical re-supply availability)
  • - Single-wall or double-contained
  • - Level control
  • Piping Specification
  • Control Panel Required - specifications/requirements
