Chefs? Where have you all gone? ...

Chefs! of all levels - where have you all disappeared to?!! Global Brands, the home of VK and HOOCH amongst other well-loved beverages, owns and manages two beautiful hotels up here on the border of the Peak District in Chesterfield. Whilst I take care of all the Talent Acquisition for our drinks business, my hospitality industry savvy colleague Andrea Shuttleworth manages the Talent for our Hotels.

Since reopening our businesses post Covid we have been recruiting to fill various positions in both properties with skilled and experienced staff from the local area. We've found some great talent. However, much has been made recently of the shortage of experienced, well trained Chefs, passionate about producing quality meals from our lovely local produce up here in Derbyshire. We have advertised for all levels of Chefs. We have recently (during lockdown) refurbished and have bang up to date kitchens with all the latest tech for our Chefs. We are lucky to be supported by a high quality range of local suppliers of base produce augmented by the highest quality meats from our owner, Steve Perez's, own local farm. You can't get much closer from field to plate than that!

Despite all these advantages we are still finding it hard to attract quality talent in to bolster our existing teams. We look after our employees and are able to provide super subsidised local accommodation from within our own business portfolio. A modern highly appointed apartment for well under £300 a month rent with no deposits. We pay above average rates, with overtime and with a plate bonus too, which reflects how busy our restaurants are as people once again enjoy dining in great surroundings.
