Chef Steven Tart
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Chef Steven Tart. Steve was a great guy, and a GREAT Chef. He earned the respect and friendship of many -- from Rochester, to his tenure with Rapoport’s Restaurant Group in Boca/Delray, to his recent Stateside Sandwiches in Boca Raton, which he opened last year, and ran until his passing. Stateside Sandwiches was absolutely incredible, and truly unique -- in fact, it was my favorite restaurant in town! As a Food Critic and culinary columnist for over 25 years, I don’t make this statement lightly.
You’ll never find a better Pastrami Sandwich anywhere – starring Steven’s pastrami that he seasoned and smoked IN-HOUSE, sliced to order, and served on a grilled thick marble rye! As I said in my review, Chef Steve didn’t just put together sandwiches – he made “restaurant quality gourmet meals on bread.” The restaurant was well on its way to success, until the CV Pandemic forced the shutdown of all restaurants, along with most of the nearby businesses.
We’ll all miss Steve’s humble kindness and tireless dedication to his craft -- and of course, his food.
(I may never be satisfied with another pastrami sandwich ever again!)
