- Traits of the best business people
- Getting out of the passenger seat in the job interview journey
- A new group to know about: Sales Brother & Sisterhood
- ??The ultimate marketing hack for emails ??
- The must-offer perk Bill Gates recommended (before it was popular)
- What pilot training can teach us about attention management
- The four elements of empowerment
This week's content comes from Mark Kilens, Gaetano DiNardi, Ryan Walsh, Morgan Ingram, Alex Boyd, Marcel Schwantes, Thomi Richards, and Janice Bryant Howroyd. If you're not following these folks yet, check 'em out.
Now let's get into this week's content!
LinkedIn Content
This week's headliner reminds us content creators that we can play a great record more than once. Let's dust off our best content and give it a fresh coat of paint, or repurpose it entirely. I'm thinking some of my favorite podcast discussions could inspire some good Linkedin posts. Or that some of my best Linkedin posts could be expanded into longer blog pieces. Mark's post definitely got me brainstorming. Tis the season for repurposing!
Yes x 4! Someone with these traits can do anything. Gaetano's list would put anyone in the top 1% of business players, and humanity in general. Fancy education, impressive resume, big title... none of those things impress me nearly as much as people with these character-defining traits. These are personal standards we should aspire to ourselves AND seek out when we're building teams, promoting people, and trying to organize productive company cultures. Gaetano nailed it. ??
Ryan's post serves as a great reminder that companies and applicants must (should) always keep in mind the recruiting process is a two-way street. Unfortunately, companies are often overwhelmed with applicants. It's up to you as a candidate to be proactive and differentiate yourself from the crowd. Don't contain your curiosities. Curiosity is one of my favorite traits in candidates. People asking questions, the smart questions, illustrate that they've done their homework and they care. Establish yourself as an informed and inquisitive candidate instead of just another applicant in the process. Speak up, ask questions, and make sure whatever decision you make is informed. Be the driver in your own journey.
Morgan and friends are doing something super cool here with a new Slack channel to support African-Americans in tech. Boom. Slack, Linkedin (and many other platforms) provide opportunities for micro-communities that can be truly meaningful to people lacking support otherwise. Cheers to Morgan for starting this Slack group, and I hope (expect it will inspire more to blossom. HERE'S THE LINK TO THE SLACK CHANNEL
I love this post for two reasons! First, Alex delivers a well-deserved shaming for anyone looking for a magic trick. Gotcha. You know this already, but I'll say it anyway: "hacks" are complete bullshit, particularly in sales and marketing. It's a buyer's world, and we have to earn attention and trust like never before. Then Alex tells us to be creative and thoughtful instead of spraying and praying. So he reveals a magic trick after all. ??Work, work, work, work, work ??
Around The Web
Bill Gates has always been ahead of the times, and here's another example of that. Years ago, he said companies will have to offer this one perk to acquire the best talent, and I couldn't agree more. With the development of tech that makes communication and collaboration so simple, companies will have to catch up, psychologically, with what tech makes possible. If your company is against this, I'd love to hear why.
This is a great read! Please don't miss it. While this is a concept most of us will absorb from a professional angle, this idea can and should be considered for all aspects of our lives: our friendships, our family time, our work, our hobbies, and so on. This got me thinking about more than just how my attention is spent now, but what I actually want to give my attention to moving forward. I'm thinking about what to eliminate that doesn't deserve my limited attention ??
This quick read begins with an inspiring story and ends with four tactics to employ to empower your people to get the most out of your team. This is solid advice that any manager of people should read and start now.
