Checks/Balances Still Needed in Leadership

It is so easy to get into the mindset that if I could control everything, if I could spend whatever I felt was needed for success, if I could just go about my business the way I see fit without approval from anyone, I and this company could be so super successful.

Easy to get into that mindset, but try not to let yourself get there.? You will ultimately fail and leave a staggering, smoldering mess of things as you exit.?

Our country was built on checks and balances.? Though that piece has taken a hit the last 6 years, it was put into place by our country’s forefathers to ensure the right thing is done at all times.? Similar to my opening paragraph, there are politicians that truly believe if they could do anything they wanted to, life would be great.

When you have another department/another Leader ask you questions, ask you why you need to spend this money, why you need to do this, why you need to do that, they are looking to you for answers.? If you can’t deliver good business reasons as answers to the things you want to do, then it doesn’t need to be done.? And as hard as it is to say, be so appreciative to those people for pushing you to deliver those answers.? They are looking out for your company and your best interests and their interests as well.?

Total control by Leaders in history has NEVER worked out well.? It’s called a dictatorship.? Just do a Google search and you will be reminded.? And when you get into that mindset, remember why you thrive as a Leader with checks and balances.
