Checkout.com's Exponential Year!
2018 was a record-breaking year for Checkout.com! It would be impossible for me to list all our achievements from last year but I have highlighted some below so we can reflect on how much we have progressed over the last 12 months.
Before I go on, I need to start this post with a giant THANK YOU to my team. None of this would be possible without them. I am a firm believer that "a company is only as good as its people" and whichever office I'm in on any given week, I always leave with the same sentiment: what an incredible team of people we have at Checkout.com!
When you unite amazing people around big aspirations, guess what? Wonderful things happen!
Here is a taste of what we delivered in 2018:
- We managed to triple our processing volume over the previous year. This growth was fueled by new partnerships with leading companies including Deliveroo, Getty Images, Gotogate, Nespresso, TransferWise and Udacity.
- Our growth was recognised by Deloitte UK where we ranked #1 fastest growing FinTech and placed 2nd overall in their Deloitte UK Technology Fast 50. PwC also named us their High Growth Business of the Year
- We continued enhancing our unified processing platform with more payment methods, new acquiring geographies and more features, ultimately facilitating for merchants around the world to accept more payments, currencies and transactions – all through one integration and with complete feature parity.
- We successfully obtained both our Visa and MasterCard issuing licenses. We built our acquiring platform from the ground up, so we are excited to put our unique experience in payment technology to the service of European fintechs and to launch the many other exciting card products that we have in our pipeline.
- We hired nearly a 100 new employees and increased global headcount by 52%. Bradley Riss joined as Chief Commercial Officer and Nicholas Thomson joined as Head of Product.
- We moved into a new 22,000 sq ft. London HQ in the heart of Fitzrovia, and are now operating 8 global offices across Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and the U.S.
It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, from a humble PSP just a few years ago to a global company that now processes billions of dollars for some of the world's largest e-commerce brands.
I am genuinely excited to continue building on these achievements in 2019 and I'm confident that we will do even better in the year to come. After all, like I always say in my all-hands meetings, "we are still at chapter zero", so watch out :)
