How do we address the Dystopia when the flip side brings such Utopia?

Parts of Social Media - uniting lost families, growing charities, finding organ donors or even being able to push a button and have a pizza or a car turn up and take you anywhere is incredible.

However, this film explores the Dystopia side of social media and provides insight and focus that you can come away with feeling rather exploited and worried for yourself, your children and for society.

There are two types of industries refer to the customers as "USERS" Illegal drug dealers and the tech sector and we have become addicts of tech.

  • We live in a world that makes more money from a cut-down tree.
  • We live in a world that makes more money from killer a whale.
  • We live, work and consume from an industry that has made the most money ever from selling the Human Behaviour Predictions sets.

Our shareholder pushed society might well need a reset of the chessboard.

We all have become the Product.

Humans data is now the biggest Product;

Social Media has created a business model which sells US.

If it is free to use, then it places us as the commodity.

How much are you investing in the HFM index... " Human Futures Market" just like coffee, meat, oil and gas.

The documentary features and follows the voices of former very senior tech developers now addressing that there is a problem, at the core of that is The Center for Humane Technology is a nonprofit organization focused on the ethics of consumer technology. Founders  Tristan HarrisAza Raskin, speak openly and frankly throughout the film.

Head to there website and check the resources out - after watching it, it will help balance the feelings.

The algorithms from Gmail to swiping up, down, left, or right has been designed by 100's human persuasion/tech academics to create Casino aka Las Vegas slot machines essentially in all our pockets.

Not focusing on children's wellbeing, not focusing on adults mental states, not focusing on throwing over democracy, yet that is what it has evolved into this after just 10 years.

They are becoming so accurate, advertisers from all industries small and large are willing pay for as it becomes a sure thing not a gamble to advertise.

What is your average phone use per day - 2,3,4,5,6,7 hours per day.

Personally, I started reading, researching this dilemma for last couple of year.

On my phone, I now run a very clean set up

No alt text provided for this image
  • Selected or no notifications,
  • No sounds
  • NO EMAIL
  • Very limited Social media apps have been deleted or hidden the apps across my phone.

I track every second i spend on my devices and block different social media threads to improve my productivity and sanity.

My phone usage per day is anything from 30 mins to 1hr30mins.

This is made up of tracking core life pillars;

  • My fitness (Strava)
  • Listening to Audible books (Up to hour)
  • Monitoring my Diet
  • Monitoring my emotional state

By using a laptop to enter these sites and to write an email is far more efficient and have far more ways to Rage (resist) against the Machine ;-)

I still do fall into the black holes of Youtube, Twitter, this year TicTok and for work Linkedin.

How do we see the matrix, when we are in the matrix. For me its a seriously sharp double-edged sword.

One of the most interesting questions asked all the experts who designed these sites was that the Presidents and Senior leaders don't let their kids have any screen time or it is extensively controlled.

Is it time for a Reboot - In some forms, it surely must be?

Democrat society has become more marginalized than ever - it is in the Social Media's business model interest to have different opinions and fake news as it gets more engagement?

  • We are losing the ability to agree on what it is the Truth.
  • We are losing the ability to see the divides for what they are.

It is my DATA surely I should be able to charge for companies using my data and governments charge a data tax to limit and curb the data gathering or scraping,

If de do live in a matrix, the real question is if we want to know?

Is all this Tech's fault, absolutely not, there isn't just one problem or just some directors blame.

The Tech and algorithm are now in places that have the A.I. running itself.

The Like button was designed to spread positivity, how it evolved is now the responsibility of the Tech industry and until we do tackle underlining results of a profit shareholder world we are living in dangerous times for humanity.

Tech and Governments MUST get control of the chessboard and stop treating us all like pawns otherwise the shoulder holder mindset will cause the checkmate to our society.

Speaking as a 40 something we built this online world with little to no idea what the rules of engagement should be for a digital life. We're still figuring it out and don't think we should be too harsh on the tech companies that have "users" they are just giving us what we want and condoned for the longest time. We were the early adopters, we demanded better targeted ads not spam, we joined social networks and made them what they are today and we can just as easily take it back but we choose not to. Who here has actually read the terms and conditions for any tech companies offering? Now that we are finally starting to wise up to the monsters we helped create its time to redefine the rules of engagement and "documentaries" (I use the term loosely here) are starting to drive this new conversation.

It's such a massive discussion...social media can, and has demonstrably proven, to have a connecting role in society, yet he need to make any entity "sustainable" (a term that basically hides the word "profit"), undermines it's very usefulness. In the same way that 'free press' is at odds with 'for profit press' ... Fantastic read Daniel Andersen-Tuffnell

I watched this a few weeks ago, and I’m still trying to get my head round it all. The scary part is the people who can’t see they’re trapped as users. They believe what they read, believe what they see, and as a result they live their lives as addicts to their devices. The worst part; although ‘social media’ knows what’s happening, they are powerless to stop it. Consumed by the need to deliver shareholder value, they dare not tinker with the algorithm’s of addiction. Regulation could help, but I see the same arguments ahead as we battled cigarette companies, sugar producers and the like as they fought to protect their wealth ahead of our health.

Saw this a few weeks ago. What was frightening the fact that I wasn't surprised. The key line was 'you are the product' enough said Daniel!
