“They Found a Provider for Me in Five Months”

Summary: CALO is Concierge Behavioral Center or sometimes referred to as a Parental Choice facility located in Lake Ozarks, MO. This facility primarily treats adopted children but not exclusively. They currently have 124 residents and employ about 200 people to help manage the facility. This facility was purchased in 2011 and is part of a larger system nationally that has a variety of behavioral centers in their network.

CALO utilized Pathways for their Psychiatrist needs and it worked out well for quite some time before using THC. They didn’t need a full-time physician initially, so Pathways was a great solution. Once they outgrew that relationship it was time to secure their own provider.

Chris Perkins, CALO Regional President, said the need was very critical because it was getting costly to continue using Pathways, and not having a full-time provider was creating operational inefficiencies. They tried to find a candidate, leveraging their own network and using a contingent firm in Dallas. They spent about 4 months looking on their own before securing the services of The Hire Connection. 

Chris spoke with a variety of firms before deciding to go with THC. Of other retained firms, he had heard some nightmare stories how the fees accumulated quickly, and the client never got any candidates. He also discussed how they had used an executive firm for something completely non-related and were taken up the river on that decision. He indicated he loved THC’s pricing structure and knew there would be no surprises on invoices. Though his executive team was quite leery of entering into another retained relationship, ultimately he gave in to his gut instincts, and they moved forward with THC—turned out his instincts were spot-on.

The THC Experience: Impressive

Chris indicated the overall experience was positive during his engagement with THC. He mentioned there were a couple of bumps with communication at the outset, but that was resolved immediately when Van Allen (owner) intervened, assessed and solved the issue. Because he knew how large the shortage is with Psychiatrists, he was over-the-top impressed with the quality of candidates and the volume of candidates submitted to CALO. When he began the relationship with THC, he thought it would take a year to fill the search and he was delighted when THC exceeded all expectations…”they found a provider for me in five months”.

Assisting with the management of the corporation, he travels extensively for CALO; and also does a lot of public speaking on behavioral health issues. When asked if he would recommend THC to colleagues, he said, “he would, and already does on a frequent basis”.
