Safe Communities and Vibrant Economies?

  • FOR ACTION: Edmonton’s Storefront Improvement Grant intake for 2024 is from Feb 1-29, April 1-30, and Sept 1-30. This is a matching reimbursement grant for significant exterior renovations, up to 50% of project costs.
  • FOR ACTION: Applications are now open for a new grant aimed at supporting gang violence intervention programs for at-risk youths. The grant is offered under the federal Building Safer Communities Fund .
  • ONE Properties shared a year-end recap of the gardens at Northwest Business Park and Edmonton Tower , which were installed by MicroHabitat. Each garden has 500 edible plants that yield 300 pounds of produce, which has gone to tenants of the two properties and to Edmonton's Food Bank.?
  • The city has saved about $5 million in contracted services and budgeted overtime because of a lack of snow during the driest November on record, but says that it’s still too early to predict overall savings this season.
  • The Edmonton Transit Service Advisory Board says the city’s transit system needs to improve safety, cleanliness, and service due to concerns about substance abuse and violence.
  • A renewed strategy to revitalize Chinatown was presented to City Council. The Chinatown Transformation Collaborative Society is receiving $1.2 million in funding.

  • The BOMA Edmonton Awards program recognizes commercial real estate industry excellence. Companies and individuals are awarded in 15 categories. Some local winner categories are eligible to enter the BOMA Canada National Awards. Applications are due February 12, 2024, click HERE for details and application forms.
  • Aspen Properties created a video to mark its 25th anniversary. CEO Greg Guatto discusses the company's commitment to improving the built environment with innovative amenities and its expansion into residential areas.
  • Civida's charitable foundation, the Civida Housing Foundation, has a new website where users can find information about the foundation, projects, partnerships, and how to get involved.
  • Carlson Construction has completed the Saville Centre Tennis Facility at the University of Alberta, the 42,000-square-foot facility is equipped with a dome to accommodate tennis in fall and winter.
  • International Workplace Groups (IWG) is opening a second hybrid office space in the Park Plaza Building at 106 Street and 98 Avenue, just north of the legislature. The nearly 16,000-square-foot space which will be a hub for freelancers, small businesses and corporations is expected to open in March 2024.
  • Hi Signs team members discussed the transformative power of colour within Edmonton's urban landscape in a recent article from Canadian Architect. The article also features Lindsay Dyck , design and development manager with ONE Properties , exploring how colour contributes to the newly opened Citizen on Jasper.
  • The Skyscraper Page provides information on more than 300 buildings in Edmonton with a rendering, general information, and location data.

  • The Safety Codes Council offers educational opportunities from certification to be a Safety Codes Officer to courses such as Effective Inspection Report Writing.
