Hey ??

I was at an event recently and a colleague (who is obese and has been for years) said to me “oh Linda my husband asked me to check my BMI … it was so funny, the results said I was obese not overweight - I thought I was a little bit overweight - but not OBESE!!!!”

It’s interesting isn’t it.

A lot of us are actually ‘obese’ nowadays … and it does have an impact on our life.

Checking your Body Mass Index (BMI) can provide you with valuable information about your overall health and help you assess if you have a healthy weight for your height.

There are plenty of apps you can download and use to check your stats here’s ?? the one I use

Here are a few reasons why checking your BMI is important:

Health assessment: it can give you an indication of whether you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. It provides a rough estimate of the amount of body fat you have. By knowing your BMI, you can evaluate your risk of developing certain health conditions associated with weight, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and some types of cancer.

  1. Weight management: Monitoring your BMI can serve as a useful tool for weight management. If your BMI falls outside the healthy range, it may be an indication that you need to make lifestyle changes to maintain a healthy weight. This can involve adjusting your diet, increasing physical activity, or just do the Kiss ?? Goodbye to the Common Western Diet course and change your breakfast, lunch, dinner, sleep, exercise behaviour… it’s not a ‘diet’ - it’s a LIFE!
  2. Goal setting: If you have specific weight-related goals, checking your BMI can help you set realistic targets. By knowing your current BMI and your desired BMI, you can calculate the amount of weight you need to lose or gain to reach your goal. It provides a measurable parameter to track your progress and make adjustments to your lifestyle if needed. Best thing is to do this with an accountability buddy … challenge each other to make changes EVERY DAY and share the data with each other.
  3. Awareness and prevention: Being aware of your BMI can help you recognize potential health risks associated with weight. If your BMI is in the overweight or obese range, it can motivate you to take action and adopt healthier habits to reduce the risk of weight-related health problems. Prevention is often more effective and less challenging than dealing with health issues once they arise.
  4. Understanding Food Literacy: Knowing your BMI needs to change to NORMAL WEIGHT status an easy way to get there is to actually understand what is in sooooo many ‘products’ we consume - remember TURN THE PACKET AROUND and search all the ingredients in it … then put it back on the shelf ?? and chose a healthier option.
