Check-In on Your Emotional State

COVID-19 pandemic has caused a dramatic change in our life and surrounding environment. We have been rattled by the uncertainty of what comes next, and all of these uncertainties compound and add to the stress of what you do in your daily routine. We have ended up running on heightened emotions and ignoring the importance of checking in with our thoughts and our well-being.

May 2024 is the World Health Organization’s World Mental Health Awareness Month and that’s why we’ve brought this quick checklist and reminder for you, to cut through all the noise and prioritize your overall well-being.

Prevention is better than cure. By having the awareness of your mental health status, you can get ahead of the emotional duress. Remember, your goal is not to be superhuman, but rather to be a human who can take care of yourself, so you can help others too. Being there for yourself will only help you show up better for others!

CHECK IN WITH YOURSELF :

  • Have I been getting quality sleep with regular bedtimes?
  • Have I been isolating myself from others at work, friends, or family?
  • Do I have more worries or anxiety than usual? Maybe use a scale of 1-10 to reflect on this.
  • Have I lost interest in activities and pursuits that usually held my attention?
  • Have I been experiencing significant mood swings, crying, or thoughts of suicide?
  • Do I have trouble concentrating?
  • Do I feel at ease with myself and my surroundings?
  • Is my life appropriately balanced between work, fun, friends, family, self-care, exercise, and other meaningful pursuits?
  • Am I overly fatigued or tired at the end of the day? How about at the end of the week?
  • Has my appetite or eating habits changed in any way recently?
  • Have I felt more sad than happy lately?

Take time to reflect and answer all these questions for yourself honestly. This will help you gauge your mental health status, and know what areas you need to work on to be in a better place.
