There are numerous ways that you can try to get to the top of search engine rankings, here's one simple way that you can try to improve your ranking, it isn't a guaranteed, but this method can be used successfully on many sites in many sectors to improve rankings.
First complete a search on Google for your desired “keyword”, so for example if your site/page promotes PC Repairs, then you might want to start with “PC Repairs”. You must ensure that Personalisation is switched off, as keeping this on will affect the results that you see.
You will now be faced with a list of search results; usually the top 1-2 results are for either for big brand names or Wikipedia/videos etc, ignore these results as these are likely to have more reasons why they rank well than just the use of the keyword(s).
For the rest of the results in the top 10, make a note of the following details for each of the pages:
- Which URL's have the keyword(s) in the Title tag or the H1 or H2 tag?
- How many times are they used and what position are the keyword(s) in with the Title and Header tags?
- Within the content of the page itself, how many times is the keyword(s) used?
- Quickly calculate the keyword density and then look at the first instance of the keyword(s) are (i.e. how many characters from the beginning of the content are they)
- Finally copy and paste the content of the page you are reviewing into the simple site to find it's Flesch-Kincaid Reading Grade Level (use https://readability-score.com/).
Do this analysis for all the non-brand, non-wikipedia pages in the search results.
At the end of this you will have your competitive analysis for your keyword(s), use this to ensure that your page falls within the ranges you have discovered; so for example if all the URL's you have analysed have the keyword(s) in their Title tags then yours should too ensuring that you place the between the range of characters you worked out.
Title tag 1: “PC Repairs expertly undertaken, no repair is too large or too small.”
Title tag 2: “All types if PC Repairs work guaranteed for 6 months.”
Title tag 3: “Visit us or call us for an estimate of the cost of your PC Repairs. Quick, friendly and cost effective work.”
All three of these contain our keyword(s), site 1 starts the keyword at position 1 and the last (site 3) starts their keyword(s) at position 58, so ensure yours is somewhere within this range. So something like .. "Problems with your PC? Use our expert PC Repair service. Full range of services available."
Complete the changes to your site and finally ensure that your Flesch-Kincaid Reading Grade Level for your page is also between the range for the sites you have analysed.
Like I said, this will not guarantee improved rankings, but I have found that it has worked in the past, particularly if your site is on a tipping point and just needs a slight improvement to rank well, then this is an excellent place to start.
Good luck with your rankings.
