Hiring Trends

HOW CANDIDATES ARE BENDING THE RULES TO GET AHEAD

Job hunting has become extremely competitive so it's no surprise that some candidates are taking shortcuts that could impact their career prospects. A revealing study from Resume Templates, based on feedback from professionals, sheds light on the increasing prevalence of cheating during the job application process.

Unpacking the Tactics

  • Prevalent Practices: Around 15% of job seekers admit to consistently "cheating" during their search, with another 20% doing so occasionally. Common tactics include having others complete online skills assessments or using unauthorized aids like ChatGPT.
  • Interview Deceptions: Cheating extends beyond tests to include video interviews, where some candidates have used real-time assistance from others to answer questions posed by hiring managers.
  • Resume Misrepresentations: Many are also embellishing resumes, with frequent fabrications around work experience, skills, and even educational backgrounds.

WHICH RECRUITING STRATEGY BEST SUITS YOUR NEEDS?

As businesses strive for growth and stability, choosing the right recruiting strategy becomes paramount. Our latest blog examines the differences between reactive and proactive recruiting, offering advice on which approach may yield better results for your organization.

Strategy Breakdown

  • Reactive Recruiting: Traditionally used, this method involves initiating the hiring process only when a vacancy arises. It's straightforward but can lead to hasty decisions and a scramble to fill positions, potentially compromising the quality of hires.
  • Proactive Recruiting: This forward-thinking strategy involves continuous talent search, even without immediate vacancies, allowing for the cultivation of a rich talent pool and engagement with potential candidates early on.

Advantages of Proactive Recruiting

  • Strategic Planning: Allows for smoother budget management and less reactionary spending.
  • Quality Hires: By building relationships early, you enhance the candidate experience and improve the match between job requirements and applicant skills.
  • Employer Branding: A proactive approach helps continuously promote your company as a desirable workplace, not just when you have openings.

Workforce Insights

UNDERSTANDING THE HAPPINESS OF YOUR TEAM

At the heart of every successful business is a satisfied workforce. Our recent blog explores the critical metric of employee satisfaction, which is as important as revenue or productivity in determining your company's health. Here's how you can effectively gauge your employees' satisfaction and engagement to ensure your organization thrives.

Strategies to Measure Satisfaction

  • Surveys and Pulse Checks: Regular surveys, especially targeted pulse surveys, provide a quick snapshot of employee sentiment and can highlight areas needing attention.
  • Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS): This simple tool asks employees how likely they are to recommend your company as a workplace, helping categorize them as promoters, passives, or detractors. Each group offers unique insights into your workplace dynamics.
  • Direct Feedback: One-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and focus groups create open lines of communication and allow for direct feedback, which is invaluable for understanding employee satisfaction.

Job Market Update

MAY SEES A SURGE IN JOB CREATION, BUT WHAT'S THE CATCH?

This May, the U.S. job market displayed impressive resilience, bouncing back nicely from a slower April. According to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data, businesses added a stellar 272,000 jobs, significantly surpassing the modest 190,000 jobs economists had anticipated. This surge suggests a vibrant labor market, but not without its complexities.

Behind the Numbers

  • Surveys Tell Different Stories: While the business survey indicates a healthy job increase, the household survey offers a slight contrast, showing a tick-up in the unemployment rate to 4%. This divergence highlights the nuanced nature of current employment trends.
  • Economic Insights: Experts consider the business survey more reliable due to its broader scope and steadier historical performance. Yet, the rise in unemployment suggests more people are entering the job market, possibly due to increased confidence or necessity.
  • Wages Winning Against Inflation: Another positive note for workers is the continued rise in wages, which is outpacing inflation. Average hourly earnings have increased by 4.1% over the past year, providing some relief against a 3.4% rise in living costs.

I am one to let my experience speak for itself, but anymore even the non-cheaters have to contemplate it for two reasons: 1) they are being cheated by the actual cheaters and 2) employers are using AI to keep from having to actually look at resumes of people who don't 100% match a job description but would be better employees than the liars and cheats they actually interview. So, if a person wants to get a chance, what the heck are they supposed to do?
