Cheat codes and shortcuts

I totally get the conceptual value of letting people figure things out for themselves. It’s character-building, right? Getting comfortable with discomfort. Building resilience. And when you figure something out for yourself, it tends to stick.

Yes, yes, and yes.

And also… no.

When it came to getting my copywriting business off the ground so I could quit my job? I wasn’t going to wait around. I wanted shortcuts.

I took a copywriting course from a pro, joined a mentoring program for freelancers, and soaked up everything I could from people who were already doing what I wanted to do.

Am I cheater? YES. And proud.

Of course, there was still trial and error. I set my rates too low, overthought every decision, and got stuck in people-pleaser mode by over-delivering on everything.

But one thing I didn’t do? Believe I had to “earn” success by struggling through it all the hard way.

I’ve always loved having bumper rails—just enough guidance to keep me loosely on track while figuring out my style and approach.

That clarity made everything easier. And that’s exactly what I want for you.

So, look for cheat codes! Take pride in your shortcuts! Progress happens faster when you let others help you find your way.

Maybe it’s joining a program to learn a new skill faster or a mastermind to sharpen your strategic thinking. Maybe it’s creating a peer pod to be your support crew. Or even using ChatGPT to brainstorm when your brain feels stuck.

I do all three of these and there’s nothing sweeter than a fresh perspective.

But this isn’t not about getting to your destination first or fastest. It’s about recognising when you’re pushing on a closed door—while someone you know has the key.
