Cheap lightbox displays are usually cheap for a very good reason.

Manufacturers to the TRADE - fabric faced lightboxes for office, exhibition & retail environments
Here is an example of the pitfalls that can occur when building a fabric faced lightbox. As you can see from these images, when you use the wrong kind of LED and couple it with the wrong depth of lightbox profiles, you can get less than perfect results.
The vertical grey lines visible on this illuminated fabric faced lightbox are the result of a combination of two things.
Firstly, the frame depth is not enough that the beam angle of the LEDS meets BEFORE the light hits the fabric. The grey lines show where the light has not spread effectively to fill the box.
Secondly, the LEDS are probably underpowered and just not powerful enough to fill the print with the bright and steady glow it deserves.
Another possible problem may be the quality of the printed fabric. Cheap fabric may have a large weave that allows more light to penetrate exacerbating the above issues.
Anomolies like this are common when little thought has gone into the construction of the box and the manufacturer has used cheap electric components.
At DPI, we are specialists in the construction of lightbox display and fabric imagery.
