Chatting to Nancy Richards on SAFM Lit.
JANUARY 7, 2018
This time last year, I was gearing up for the launch of Under The African Sun, at Exclusive Books in Cavendish Square. My journey began on that magical night and 2017 ended on a wonderful note, along the Garden Route, which seems to grow more beautiful every time I visit it.
Today, Sunday 7 January 2018, I had the privilege and honour of being interviewed on SAFM literature, by the wonderful Nancy Richards. My nervousness was quickly dissipated by Nancy’s warmth and at the same time professional approach. I have been on the radio before, but never in the studio where it all happens live. The SABC set up in Sea Point, is impressive and extremely organised. From the security at the entrance, to the studio environment, everything works like clockwork. I did have to persuade the security officer that I was indeed an invited guest and that the studio was expecting me. I forgave him instantly though, when he called me “Juffrou.” Flattery does get you everywhere.
Nancy Richards waved a magic wand and I forgot all about the microphone and the audience. I answered her questions as best I could and found myself chatting away as I would to a trusted friend. The minutes flew by and it was over in a flash. I was outside, on Beach Road and breathing in the sea air again, before making my way to the car, where her lyrical voice soothed the next interviewee into answering calmly.
Thank you for this precious opportunity Tsholofelo Pelo and Nancy Richards
