ChatGPT a killer to software engineers?

According to me, the answer is no and we have to be excited about the opportunities ChatGPT, Metaverse, blockchain or any other emerging technologies bring to the software field. Peoples who are willing to learn or adapt to new technology never have to worry about any such software evolution.?
The ChatGPT fans can’t forget the fact that ChatGPT is based on historical data and think about how can we incorporate emotional intelligence, creativity etc into it. ChatGPT is indeed opening up a huge potential, which couple of years ago we thought is not possible. With this, the processes will become faster/ smarter than what we have at the moment. We can make better decisions and can become more productive. But we can’t completely throw away the human element with this.
Similar things happened in the past as well, when computers started replacing the jobs of human beings then the whole process became fast and created a new set of opportunities for people. So software engineering sector will see the transformation and the people who adapt to the situation will succeed and move faster.

Again what we are seeing with the ChatGPT at the moment is organisations and people are getting panicked and trying to bring a disruptive change to gain market share. This is truly visible with the speed at which organisations are trying to integrate these features into their product and services. Started with search engine integration- big news but still not available for GA. Recent announcements with copilot features? The big question here is- are they introducing this to create an industry buzz or building a use case to help the human race to advance further or fail early principle?
According to me, there is a lot of noise out there but soon someone (many of them) will introduce a product or service which will help the human race to advance further with technological change and will become an industry revolution. eg- when the phone market was busy with building sliding/touch/music/internet phones and Apple introduced the iPhone which redefined the whole phone industry, not just the phone but the phone software, hardware, services, platforms etc. This was a killer for big phone manufacturers at that time but introduced a new set of opportunities for software engineers/companies.
Yesterday it was Blockchain and Metaverse, today it is Generated AI and tomorrow will be something new. The future will always be bright and if you are willing to learn and adapt to change there are no boundaries to the opportunities for talented people.

1 å¹´Are you sure Adarsh? Things can quickly change with new Technologies especially among the new generation who might find it so exciting. Sometimes it's the market that drives the route these new technologies take. We will see.
