OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT's Incognito Mode and Data Export Feature

OpenAI has recently rolled out new features for its advanced chatbot, ChatGPT, to prioritize users' privacy and data control. The San Francisco-based startup announced an "incognito mode" for the chatbot called "Chat History & Training" that does not record users' conversation history or use it to improve its artificial intelligence. This new control setting allows users to turn off chat history, which means that any conversations that take place will not be used to train the AI model or appear in the history sidebar. The company stated that conversations would be stored temporarily, but only reviewed if necessary to monitor for abuse.

The new feature stems from a months-long effort by OpenAI to give users more control over their data collection and place them "in the driver's seat" regarding data control. Italy recently banned ChatGPT, citing possible privacy violations, while France and Spain initiated their own probes of the service. However, OpenAI's chief technology officer, Mira Murati, reassured that the company is compliant with European privacy laws and working to assure regulators.

In addition to the incognito mode, OpenAI also introduced a data export feature that enables users to export their conversations and obtain the data stored in ChatGPT via email. Nicholas Turley, OpenAI's product officer, likened this data export feature to an internet browser's incognito mode. Turley also mentioned that OpenAI would retain conversations for 30 days to monitor any abuse before permanently deleting them.

Tweet of the Week: AI Solution against Drug Crisis

As we all know, the drug crisis in Turkey has made it increasingly difficult to find certain medications, including Ritalin. It's frustrating to have to call pharmacy after pharmacy, only to be told they don't have any in stock. That's why it's great to see people like Yigit Konur using AI technology to make this process easier.

By creating an automation with OpenAI and Telnyx API, Yi?it was able to call 4000 pharmacies and ask for stock information, which was then converted to text with Whisper. This is a great example of how technology can be used to solve real-world problems and make our lives easier.

The AI Arms Race: Why Open-Source Engineers are Winning

As the race for AI supremacy heats up, Google and OpenAI have found themselves facing a formidable opponent: open-source engineers. According to a leaked internal document, Google has "no secret sauce" in the AI race and is being "lapped" by open-source communities who have been quietly surpassing them both.

Written by Google senior software engineer Luke Sernau, the document suggests that without a "secret sauce," Google's best hope is to learn from and collaborate with what others are doing outside of Google. Sernau adds that open-source engineers are doing things with $100 that "we struggle with" at $10 million, and they are doing so in weeks, not months.

The document warns that neither Google nor OpenAI has a "moat" or "secret sauce" that means others are not able to overtake them. As such, the best thing to do is to learn from and collaborate with people who are working outside of Google.

The report also notes that people are unlikely to pay for a service that they are able to get similar offerings for free and without restrictions through those open-source researchers. And it warns that the size and complexity of the AI systems that are being worked on by Google and others are actually slowing it down. That complexity means that it is difficult to update them quickly.

It's clear that the AI arms race is far from over, and open-source engineers are proving to be a formidable opponent for Google and OpenAI. As Sernau suggests, the best approach for these companies is to collaborate with the open-source community and learn from their innovative approaches. Only then can they hope to keep pace with the rapidly evolving world of AI.

Image of the Week: Professional Babies

Kris Kashtanova's tweet about "Professional Babies" is certainly an interesting prompt challenge. It's always fascinating to see how different people interpret a phrase and come up with their own unique creations. The use of A.I. platforms such as Adobe Firefly, MidJourney, StableDiffusion, and Bing, allows for a wide range of possibilities in terms of the images that can be created.

It's great to see that this challenge was started as a learning opportunity, as it provides a platform for individuals to showcase their creativity and learn from one another. Sharing the prompt used to create the image is also an excellent way to encourage transparency and inspire others to participate in the challenge.
