Can generative AI write a competent and reliable article? Generative AI is a form of artificial technology that can take different forms of content to transform into synthetic data. I was assigned the task of having ChatGPT compose an article for me and I input the prompt, "Write a short blog post on how generative AI is used in digital marketing."
Here's the Article from ChatGPT:
"Transforming Digital Marketing: The Impact of Generative AI"
"In the dynamic realm of digital marketing, staying innovative is key to capturing audience attention and driving engagement. One of the most influential technologies making waves in this space is Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). Let's delve into how this groundbreaking tool is reshaping the landscape of digital marketing.
Content Creation and Optimization:
Generative AI has revolutionized content creation by automating the generation of text, images, and videos. Marketing teams can leverage these algorithms to create compelling and relevant content at scale, freeing up time for strategic planning. Whether it's crafting engaging blog posts, social media updates, or product descriptions, generative AI ensures a consistent and high-quality output.
Personalization at Scale:
Tailoring marketing efforts to individual preferences is a key driver of success, and generative AI excels in this regard. By analyzing vast datasets, AI algorithms can predict user behavior and create personalized marketing campaigns. From targeted email content to customized product recommendations, this personalization at scale enhances user experience and boosts conversion rates.
Chatbots for Instant Engagement:
Generative AI powers chatbots that offer instant, round-the-clock customer support. These AI-driven bots engage users in natural language conversations, providing information and assistance promptly. This not only enhances customer satisfaction but also allows businesses to handle routine queries efficiently, leaving human resources available for more complex tasks.
Predictive Analytics for Strategic Planning:
Generative AI goes beyond reacting to trends; it predicts them. By analyzing historical data, AI algorithms can forecast market trends, enabling marketers to make informed decisions and stay ahead of the competition. This predictive analytics capability is invaluable for crafting campaigns that resonate with the audience and align with emerging industry trends.
Visual Content Synthesis:
In the visually-driven world of digital marketing, generative AI plays a crucial role in synthesizing visual content. From creating eye-catching images to generating video content, AI algorithms can produce visuals that resonate with the target audience. This is particularly advantageous for social media marketing, where captivating visuals are essential for capturing and retaining audience attention.
Conclusion:
Generative AI is a game-changer in the digital marketing landscape, offering marketers unprecedented tools to streamline processes, enhance personalization, and anticipate market trends. As this technology continues to evolve, businesses that embrace generative AI are poised to gain a competitive edge in the digital arena. The era of personalized, engaging, and strategically optimized marketing is here, driven by the transformative power of generative AI."
What's Wrong with it?
To preface my critiques, I researched that a good article should effectively communicate its intended message, be well-researched, logically organized, engaging, have arguments supported by evidence, and be optimized for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). After reviewing the blog post that was written for me within a matter of seconds, I was able to find multiple aspects of the article that didn't sit right with me.
First of all, the article was titled "Transforming Digital Marketing: The Impact of Generative AI", yet the entire article described the various uses of generative AI and didn't include much information on the transformation and impact it had on digital marketing. A proper article title should accurately communicate a general explanation of its content, which the title did not do.
Second, the text never gave the definition or any examples of generative AI, leaving the audience required to figure out what it is on their own. Also, all of the points made in the blog were not supported by any strong pieces of evidence. The article lacked reliability, containing dozens of statements scattered throughout but no credible sources or hyperlinks to back up what was being inferred. Without any of those aspects, the article is not optimized for SEO at all. It does not seem well-researched, despite having millions of sources at its disposal because the arguments made have no clear evidence to support them. Furthermore, the exclusion of sources/hyperlinks dramatically decreases the potential SEO ranking and visibility.
Lastly, despite the contents of the blog post being actual applications of generative AI in digital marketing, it's not formatted in a dynamic and useful manner that can keep audiences engaged. The impacts of AI were plainly listed in a repetitive manner, with no quality content, reliable sources, multimedia, or personality which are all factors of increasing engagement.
Overall I believe that ChatGPT was not able to write a quality, competent, reliable blog post for me. If I were to have used ChatGPT to write a legitimate article, the amount of workshopping and fact-checking I would've had to do would be substantial. It simply did not effectively illustrate the given prompt with well-articulated means.
The Future of Generative AI in Digital Marketing
As the world consistently makes leaps in technology, the possible applications of generative AI for digital marketing are increasing rapidly. By implementing machine learning neural networks and a vast array of existing data, generative AI can identify patterns and structures from the data to produce new content. With those automated techniques, digital marketers can administer AI to do tasks such as:
1) Creating more personalized and engaging content for audiences/consumers
2) Upgrading efficiency and productivity by automating time-consuming tasks to increase free time and decrease energy used
3) Utilizing predictive analytics to design better websites, advertisements, and digital marketing tools
4) Identifying trends and patterns to make more advantageous marketing decisions
