ChatGPT vs a Room full of Monkies with typewriters

Or why ChatGPT shouldn't be used for writing your content.
There's a lot of talk about creating content with AI at the moment. Most of this revolves around ChatGPT which is an open-source tool which you can ask questions and receive answers that look very much like a human wrote it. But that's the point, it looks like a human wrote it but one with little intelligence, emotion or creativity.
There are also huge problems with it.
A quick demonstration
To highlight the point I asked ChatGPT this.
Write a blog about why ChatGPT shouldn't be used for content creation for SEO or social media. Include references.
And this is exactly what it said. I added the bold formatting.
ChatGPT is a powerful language model that can generate human-like text, but it should not be used for content creation for SEO or social media.
The main reason for this is that ChatGPT's generated text may not be unique or original. Since the model is trained on a large dataset of existing text, it can produce responses that are similar to existing content, which could result in duplicate content issues for SEO. Additionally, the model's generated text may not be aligned with a brand's voice or messaging, which could harm a company's reputation on social media.

Another concern is that using a language model like ChatGPT for content creation could perpetuate bias and discrimination that is present in the training data. The model learns from the data it is trained on, so if the data contains biased or discriminatory language, the model will replicate these biases in its generated text.
In conclusion, while ChatGPT can generate human-like text, it should not be used for content creation for SEO or social media due to issues of uniqueness, originality, brand alignment and bias. It is important to use human writers for creating content for SEO and social media.

I've not checked out the references on purpose so that you can find out for yourself. Or perhaps the authors referenced they will comment and clarify themselves.
I was going to add this to The Marketing Optimist blog, but as the majority of this is generated directly from ChatGPT I worry it'll do more harm than good on there.
I'm not saying that ChatGPT and other AI tools aren't useful or that you should ignore them. The things it can do are amazing but approach with caution and don't use stuff directly from the results you get back.

1 年Couldn't agree more. As you say, AI has its uses but it's riddled with issues if you are thinking of using it in a corporate context. Even if you are a small business with little time, it's very transparent and lacks any kind of personality. Blurggghh!

1 年A great article Richard Michie. I think AI is amazing! Totally agree with your words of wisdom….. but for myself, I can procrastinate for ages!!! Never quite writing the blog, content etc. So using ChatGPT is a great starting point and framework for me to then make my own.
