ChatGPT vs. Palantir: Is There Really a Debate?

ChatGPT vs. Palantir: Is There Really a Debate?

A few weeks ago OpenAI released an upgraded tier for #ChatGPT. The new offering, dubbed ChatGPT Enterprise, is marketed toward large corporations. You can read more about it here.

Given Microsoft's multi-billion dollar investments in OpenAI , this development isn't entirely surprising. Nonetheless, as demand for #artificialintelligence rises, some may be wondering if the new competition could be a threat to Palantir Technologies given the overwhelming popularity of ChatGPT, and the latter's focus on penetrating large corporations.

Here are some summarized thoughts below:

  • Palantir has been around for two decades. The company spent the majority of this time developing its IP rather than rushing to commercialization.
  • All four of Palantir's major products leverage AI and machine learning in some capacity. While AI is all the rage across tech now, Palantir has been built on AI technology for 20 years.
  • Palantir's customer growth and use cases speak for themselves.

On the commercial side, Palantir has become a top vendor of choice for the U.S. Military. Regarding the private sector, the company has the ability to sell across the organization rather than verticalizing its sale. Another way of saying this is that the company could, in theory, have multiple instances (use cases) within the same org. (leads to expanding ARR, higher NRR, and increased margins / cash flow).

While ChatGPT Enterprise looks intriguing, I question whether it will be a legitimate long-term threat to Palantir. It appears that, for now, ChatGPT Enterprise is a far more advaced chatbot assistant that could reimagine workplace automation. But regarding the complexities of the specific use cases, I ChatGPT vs. Palantir to be quite different.

I wrote a longer form memo here about Palantir and its competition if you're interested in reading it. If you find this content insightful or interesting please consider sharing or following.
