ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is taking the internet by storm recently, replacing the news of "lay-offs".
In this blog, we are going to talk all about ChatGPT, its existence, pros & mainly its cons.
What exactly is CHATGPT?
ChatGPT is a cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology produced by OpenAI. It enables chat-bots to comprehend and produce language that resembles human communication with exceptional precision and eloquence. ChatGPT is the largest language model to date, boasting 175 billion parameters and the capacity to process billions of words in a mere second.
This tool mainly functions by training a deep neural network on a vast collection of text, and then refining it for specific objectives, such as answering queries or generating text. The network comprises a series of linked layers, referred to as "transformer blocks," which process the input text and generate predictions for the output.
An important aspect of ChatGPT as we all are aware of now is its ability to grasp the context of a conversation and produce suitable responses. This is achieved through self-attention mechanisms, enabling the network to assess the significance of various words and phrases in the input text according to their relevance to the task.
Where can we implement and make good use of CHATGPT?
Tools like ChatGPT can help companies grow by using the technology in a smart way. Chat-based AI can make work easier by doing repetitive tasks for us and make communication with users more interesting.
A few applications of tools like ChatGPT for companies are:
"The Dark Side of ChatGPT: The Looming Threat to Labor":
Well, while everybody is singing the praises of this tool, we were occupied understanding how it is going to affect people's jobs and the future. Artificial intelligence powered chat-bots can definitely ease certain tasks, yet they lack certain aptitudes that humans excel at such as critical reasoning, imagination, and strategic problem-solving.
We are genuinely concerned how this AI tool is going to take away decent earnings of people, urge to learn and creativity too. Below are few of the limitations that we have collated:
Effect on students:
A recent study conducted by a professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School discovered that the AI-powered chat-bot, GPT-3, successfully passed the final examination for the school's Master of Business Administration program.
This takes us to just one point that AI ChatGPT could encourage cheating & bring on an impression on students that learning is not needed at all. But thanks to the New York City’s Department of Education announced a ban on it from its schools’ devices and networks.
ChatGPT, from the time of its release, has been in talks or thoughts of being used for misuse. Students will never make efforts to learn, grow into a well-educated person or rather even be able to live their lives with a motive.
Creates an issue to Cyber-security:
ChatGPT can make good text, but it can also be used to make harmful computer code that is hard to find. It can also be utilized to compose phishing emails that appear authentic, making it challenging to recognize and stop phishing attacks.
Because it is easy to access, even those without technical skills can use it to make malicious codes.
It's important to remember that AI alone can't prevent cyber threats and a multi-layered approach including AI, software updates, cybersecurity education, and incident response planning is necessary.
Dampens learning English & communication especially in cities like Surat:
This one is our most favorite disadvantage, well, not that we wanted this, definitely not. But this is one such disadvantage that we have personally observed since its release.
Efforts were made to improve English communication skills among our team by hosting several training sessions and classes, and there was initial excitement and acknowledgement of its importance. However, the sudden advent of ChatGPT has now served as a convenient excuse and quelled their motivation to learn further.
This tool can be a passing cloud, not a forever friend.
Limited knowledge, lacks creativity:
So far, ChatGPT can provide information that has been occurred until the year 2021 as its database is set accordingly and that's actually funny and so evident for people to understand that we cannot be reliable on its information.
We would like to show you one simple and basic example of how you cannot compare ChatGPT with that of Google:
ChatGPT's knowledge is just limited to 2021 and the information it gives cannot be completely trusted and reliable upon. So, believe it at your own risk!!
Talking about creativity, yes, it can create tons of unique e-mails & messages for you, help the bloggers especially, but it cannot aid to human creativity. It cannot replace the clear-cut understanding of two people sitting in front of each other, discussing the issue.
Just a copy-paste tool; "ANYTHING GOES..":
When we say "anything goes", I meant that people now that are aware of using ChatGPT temporarily to draft e-mails, they think they can write anything & everything. Alert!! We urge to people that whenever you send e-mails, make sure you are not blindly copy-pasting. Ensure to check every sentence because not everyone will search in ChatGPT by mentioning specific names.
We would like to show you one live example and this is unfortunately a true story, by the way:
Unreliable System: Risks of Downtime and Inaccessibility:
We understand that it is still in its beta phase and might improve as time passes by but looking at the pace people are relying on this and using it, we would like to highlight on this very crucial point: Unreliability.
We have noticed that every now & then, this tool seems to crash and we need to spend one whole second to reload and type again.
We have a very basic question to all the ChatGPT lovers, specifically to those who are not good with English: What is your back-up plan if ChatGPT crashes when you need it the most?
Our sole point is it is after all just a tool, not human. It does not have an ability to be available 24/7 like your human mind.
CONCLUSION:
We are not against this tool if it is being used as a support, rather than a necessity. It's always good to seek support as we do for designs, blogging, videos, etc but solely depending on something that is limited and making it a necessity is only making you lazy, foolish & incapable.
We should not forget that this tool has been made by humans for the betterment and easy use for humans and now, humans are relying completely on this. Our aim is just to make people aware that seeking support is always advised but 100% dependency is always a "No-No".
We know it will take less people to agree with us but we welcome counter shots, with a motive to understand how would it solve the above mentioned issues.
