Will ChatGPT replace Google?

Will ChatGPT replace Google?

The Artificial Intelligence world has been making some noise over the past few years and at the forefront of it all we can see the OpenAI company.

All of us have interacted with RPA bots in some way. It typically appears as a small pop-up in the corner of a website and offers customer service. It is frequently difficult to navigate and it is often frustrating to use.

OpenAI have found a solution to such problem by enhancing the chatbot with AI, which doesn’t only have the knowledge to answer your inquiries, but can also create stories, offer life advice, even write poetry, and programme computers. This solution is called ChatGPT.

How does it work?

The earlier text generator GPT-3 from OpenAI is built upon by ChatGPT. Using machine learning algorithms to process massive amounts of text data, such as novels, news articles, Wikipedia pages, and millions of websites, OpenAI produces its text-generated models.

The models are able to understand the intricate patterns and grammar of language and develop the capacity to decipher the desired consequence of a user's request by consuming such massive amounts of data.

In order to provide outputs, ChatGPT can develop a complex and abstract representation of the knowledge contained in the training data. It doesn't just regurgitate grammatically correct rubbish because of this; instead, it writes relevant material.

ChatGPT is optimised to engage in conversation, respond to inquiries, and be helpful. Here's an example:

All about feedback

Why does ChatGPT appear to be so much more competent than some of its predecessors? Most of this likely has to do with how it was trained.

ChatGPT was shown chats between human AI trainers during its development to indicate desired behaviour. ChatGPT is the first well-known model to employ this technique, even though a comparable model named InstructGPT has been trained in this manner.

It also appears to have given it a great advantage. Human feedback has been incorporated into ChatGPT to assist it produce more helpful responses and reject unsuitable queries.

Despite the great quality delivered by ChatGPT, it is not free from errors and limitations. One of limitations is the staticity of the AI – it doesn’t access new information in real time. Additionally to this, because it is based on feedback and information fed to it, the lack of critical thinking in selecting the correct and reliable information can often be a pitfall for ChatGPT.

AI systems are still reflections of their training data and do not have the same potential for originality as humans have, despite the fact that they may impress us with their abilities and even their seeming ingenuity.

The new search engine

From a research point of view, this tool marks an advancement in the development and deployment of human-aligned AI systems. Practically speaking, it already has some applications that are commonplace.

For instance, it might be used as a Google substitute. ChatGPT directly answers your inquiry, and frequently does it well, unlike a Google search, which needs you to explore a lot of websites and delve deeper yet to discover the needed information. The initial most common uses identified go as follow:

Even the Gmail creator, Paul Buchheit, sees the immense potential – he recently said this after observing ChatGPT in action:

I wonder if ChatGPT will face a similar problem to Google, where people just use the first link to find an answer.
