ChatGPT -- the new hotness

ChatGPT has been talked about everywhere -- from my personal friends and all around the Internet.

--> What is it -- ChatGPT is from a company called OpenAI that lets you ask questions and then get back very good overall responses from simple things like adding up numbers to much more complex results like "write me a scary story" and if asked properly, it can mimic a tone or author's writing style such as write me a scary story in the manner of Stephen King.

--> OpenAI has deep, important money reserves and friends -- They have the "royalty" of Silicon Valley and the backing of Microsoft (among others)

CEO -- former president of Y Combinator which is one of the most prominent incubator companies in the world...and of course Y Combinator is the

Friends and early investors include Elon Musk (who served on the board until 2018), Peter Theil alongside some of the titans in the venture capital world - Sequoia Capital, Bedrock Capital?AND Andreessen Horowitz?all coming into the help fund the company.

Multiple companies should be worried about OpenAI coming into their space with the top company being Google...especially Google search.

The BIG question is now how does the company get a "real" business model? The model so far is a free Internet "demo" with no ads showing the world what OpenAI can do and how it works -- a brilliant marketing strategy ripped from playbook of early Facebook and many other technology companies.

The big hurdle will be: How will the company actually make money and turn profits "soon". There is no shortage of money behind them and the company itself doesn't need (or even want) a ton of employees so it's not a race on how to get profitable before OpenAI "runs out of runway / cash"

The logical next step is to move to mobile phones and to have a subscription service for both companies and individuals -- perhaps "pay as you go" cost per question with a monthly rate with a bundled xx questions per month maximum.

UPDATE: Apparently OpenAI has just started gathering info and putting together a waiting list for ChatGPT Professional

**no “blackout” (i.e. unavailability) windows, no throttling and an unlimited number of messages with ChatGPT (or?) at least 2x the regular daily limit

-- a little confusing on the number of messages per day

Certainly, a company to watch closely as OpenAI has the ability to be a major disruptor in so many different areas and fields.

Another related article -- Creating an entire children's book in 72 hours using multiple AI tools --> So interesting to see all sides -- the person started with a personal project and then put it up to sell to see if others would enjoy it --> The praise, backlash and the "imperfectness" of this generations various AI tools shows there's both the "feelings" about AI generated content as well as the clear fact that some of the stuff is just not there yet -- consistent similar illustrations of the robot is a prime example --> The ownership issues are super sticky -- are AI xxx (illustrations, writings, etc.) "ripping off" artists without any compensation or even notice, are these tools pulling from mostly or fully from open-source material, is the truth somewhere in between? https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-midjourney-ai-write-illustrate-childrens-book-one-weekend-alice-2023-1

The technology is already replacing Ryan Reynolds! Check out this commercial he did with it: https://youtu.be/_eHjifELI-k I see this as amazing technology that'll be a tool that we all need to use. The idea that it can do a first draft of something and somebody else can polish it is amazing! But I think we're just scratching the surface. I'm excited that we are finally getting near Star Trek territory where we can do things like tell our computer to do things in a more natural way. I can't wait to tell my computer to launch all my normal programs for work or to go through a document and delete all the blue items, etc. Can someone work on Jetson's tech next, please? Where is my flying car? Or at least build me a robo made that can make me dinner. I am sure you can ask ChatGPT to write the specifications. #KAM
