ChatGPT limitations: Can it replace researchers?
Recently, I talked about how ChatGPT can be helpful in jobs search and writing emails and articles also. Today, I further asked ChatGPT to drive a mathematical model or kinetic model for a chemical reaction. First, ChatGPT replied a general approach to developing a model which was of no use. I further asked "Can you develop a kinetic model for the reaction on the surface of the catalyst (# I changed the actual question I asked here for the research confidential purpose). Consider a laminar flow reactor. Mention the main equation and give references also." However, I haven't received any satisfactory or near satisfactory information. Even, It mentioned about the some references which were not available.
Furthermore, I asked "Can you please give complete details of these references?" as I was not able to find those references online.
ChatGPT: "I apologize for the confusion. As an AI language model, I don't have direct access to external sources such as specific research papers, articles, or their complete details. I can provide general information and guidance based on my training on a diverse range of data, including scientific literature."
ChatGPT further suggested to use academic search engines like Google Scholar, research databases like IEEE Xplore or ScienceDirect, or access them through university or institutional libraries.

However, I was not able to find those references so I asked ChatGPT "I am not able to fine reference 1. Can you give some more information about his?"
With a detailed description, ChatGPT replied "I apologize for any confusion caused, and I encourage you to conduct your own search to find specific papers related to your research interests."
So, the question is that whether ChatGPT has the potential to replace researchers in future or not. It would be too early to comment on that. But definitely, it can reduce or minimize the human efforts in future. I think, it is not possible to replace human mind which is full of creativity, acumen and intuitions.
