Have you played with ChatGPT from OpenAI? You need to pay attention.
Is Google worried about the future of search now that AI is making a splash? If they are no worried, they are deluding themselves and their stakeholders. AI is going to change search forever. Google's only hope is to BUY OpenAI. Someone is going to buy them in the early weeks of 2023. Watch this space.
Here's the problem with Google. It used to be democratic and based 90% on delivering search results that matched you intention. Today 20% of Google's results are based on your exact search. The other 80% of links are PAID or INFLUENCED up the Search Engine Resutls Page (SERP). So, today, Google is a 20% solution. Duck Duck Go is making inroads but does not have a business plan or strategy to take on Google outside of us privacy advocates.
I don't use Google for search. I already use it for enough other stuff. Yes, I use G-Mail and give Google access to all of my email messages. All of them. Don't think Google is listening, send an email to your partner about a weekend visit to New York City and watch the ads begin popping on Facebook, Google, Insta, and within Chrome the ads and the New York PING will persist for a few days.

Here's the issue. Advertisers are paying for your data. And ALL of the social media sites are selling your personal data. All of them. Worse, even Amazon and Google sell your "marketing demographics." At this moment, the marketing cloud of your personal information knows with 85% certainty where you are going for breakfast or lunch today. Advertisers are selling this data about you to each other. It's not a dirty little secret, but it's the most invasive and persistent privacy issue we face now, and it's going to get worse.
Check out the Electronic Frontier Foundation. They are fighting the good fight. Then use Ad Blocking software. Consider switching off Chrome and Gmail. And finally, Privacy Badger from EFF is a great awareness tool. Learn what sites are cookie-ing you and what you acan do to block them.
